Re: Mint 19.1 Screen Flicker in Cinnnamon with Intel HD3000

I have encountered screen flashing (very random and infrequent) and also where the screen goes completely black for a couple of seconds going back to 18.3 Cinnamon. I have Intel HD 630 graphics. I think it is likely a result of using a 4K monitor at 3820 x 2160 @ 60 Hz. My wife's system is identical...

Re: Low resolution boot after upgrade to 4k

You need to check the specifications of your new display to see what port supports what resolution at what frequency. You also need to know the same thing for your graphics card. I ran into this with an earlier 4k display where 3840 x 2160 was only supported on the HDMI port at 30 Hz and a lower res...

Re: Lenovo PCs on Ubuntu Hardware List

I have two Lenovo Thinkcentre M710's that I purchased last December. They run Mint perfectly. I bought them with the default Intel graphics. I have been using IBM and Lenovo systems since 1994 and have not had many issues with all the various distributions I've used. In the last 10-15 years there ha...

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon HiDPI

I used the Samsung with the Thinkpad. In order to get the 4K resolution I needed to use the X1's HDMI port which supported 4K but at 30 Hz. It looked just fine to me. I now use the AOC with my ThinkCentre M710q. The M710 only has a displayport output (way I ordered it) but it supports 4K at 60 Hz. I...

Re: (RESOLVED) Mint 19 Cinnamon with Brother MFC-J870 printer/scanner

So I have a Brother MFC-8480DN USB connected but I could not get it to work until I did the following: a) 'sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib64/libbrscandec* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' b) 'sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib64/sane/libsane-brother* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane' This works for a BRSCAN3 device. I found this ...

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon HiDPI

I have both a Thinkpad X1C G2 and now a Thinkcenter M710q that I have used with both a Samsung 590D and an AOC 3277 in 4K mode with zero issues on Cinnamon. Being as I am over 60 years old I have had to make scaling adjustments to compensate for my less than stellar eyesight but otherwise my experie...

This method: clem wrote: ⤴Tue Jul 03, 2018 11:39 pm https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3615 Also worked just fine for me. As mentioned above, it took a bit of time but the results were great. Trouble with 4.15.0-20 kernel

I was running 4.15.0-15 on my Lenovo M710q with zero problems. Installed the 4.15.0-20 that showed as available on Update Manager today but blank screen instead of prompt for encryption password. Went back to 4.15.0-15 and all is well. Not clear to me what went wrong but wanted to bring to someone's...

Re: popping sound at startup [solved]

I'm having this problem on a new Lenovo system. From my searches on the web, it appears to be a known issue that has been identified and the fix will be (is) in 4.14 kernel. I currently just turn down the volume at boot up which is the only time I hear the popping.

Lenovo M710 install

I have a Lenovo M710 on order. It is Ubuntu-certified so I assume no issues installing the latest Mint (Cinnamon). It has been a long time since I got a new system and was wondering if there will be any changes I will need to make to BIOS before installing? I will be completely wiping the Windows 10...

Re: Cinnamon crashes with segfault [Solved]

Ehtron, thanks for the update. I am still running the packages from your first test and haven't had a segfault since Nov 1st (yet). I will keep running on 3.6.0
Update: 25 days now without a segfault. Running the latest 4.13 kernel.

Any new news on this segfault problem? I still have it happening 2-3 times per day. Fortunately I can restart Cinnamon without losing any data.

Yeah, it just crashed on me so 4.10 doesn't help. I wasn't even doing anything with the system at the time.

I installed the 4.10 kernel last Monday (had been using 4.08) and I haven't had Cinnamon crash since. Will see if this condition stays.

I did a clean install of 18.2 but I still see Cinnamon crash from time to time. Nothing regular or predictable. I have Intel graphics.
