Re: VOTE ! Mint-Y-LOGO... A New Version Of The Linux Mint Logo !

Reading various comments on the blog I had a little play with ideas myself. Not SVG and only as a mock up, but just to add another flavour :)

Re: Mint site appearance

When I was looking to replace Windows on my rig, there was nothing about Mint's website that turned me off. So what's wrong with it? (Hint: Nothing! ) https://bit.ly/2SEjJti Seriously though, simply by switching to a responsive theme will help with search results (Google penalises non-responsive la...

Re: Mint site appearance

Ok, maybe something along these lines... * Responsive layout : this will happen by default as Clem is acquiring a new theme. * Home Page Headline : simple statement above the fold explaining what LM is, and that it's free. * Home Page Sub-headline : Succinct description of benefits of LM, strong com...

Re: Mint site appearance

Seems like a few would sooner leave the main site asis, but as a general question how often do existing users here actually visit the site? Maybe on occasion to get a download link when there's a new release, or possibly to click on a documentation link (which is held on a separate site anyway). I'd...

Re: Mint site appearance

I think it's great that the Mint team are looking at updating the main site. Been thinking for a few years it needs change. There's a number of things that could be improved, e.g, a responsive layout etc, but for me the most important thing is the actual homepage. Imagine you know absolutely nothing...

Re: Trying to install kernel - broken dependencies

hi GM10, quick question, I just installed Kernel 4.15.0-43 as presented by the Update Manager about 40 minutes ago. Like another user on the LM blog my Update Manager also reports it as 'Unsupported'. I've noticed that you mentioned this is a pre-release kernel and this is the correct behaviour. I'm...

Re: Web Site Enhancement: Reduce sensitivity of "common words" filter

Hi Xenopeek, I agree with the bit about not wanting to rely on Google, but from what I can see on the phpBB extensions demo page the two search options can co-exist : https://phpbb.hifikabin.me.uk/ . The free version of GCS does throw up ads, but I guess LM could join Adsense and maybe make a little...

Re: Web Site Enhancement: Reduce sensitivity of "common words" filter

Not sure how easy it would be to implement in phpBB, but embedding Google Custom Search somewhere on the site might be an option? Not sure if it's the best idea, but maybe worthy of consideration.

Re: What are the aims of Linux Mint?

Windows and OSX are deemed to be a 'product', LM (on its website) is described as a 'project'. I used to dwell on the marketing aspect and, for example, how the site could be changed to market it better. My opinion has mellowed on that over the last couple of years and I quite like its niche approac...

Re: Hello From Ireland

Hi Hello steocullen91, Welcome and hope you enjoy LM. I've been using it exclusively since V13 (non games user) and have never felt the need to wander away. Yep the occasional hiccup, but have always found ways round things either from tips/info from the forum or Googling in general. As an aside it ...

Ah, would you adam and eve it, the old dog and bone is brown bread. Tell the dustpan lids to take a butchers and they still wouldn't have a didgeridoo. Talking of loafs, me barnet has seen better days and the old mince pies are a bit pony too! Anyway, feeling a bit hank, cuppa rosie and maybe a ruby...

Re: I'm Moving on.

Your missing out of all this great stuff. LOL When you copy text from some other website and repost it elsewhere without crediting the source, it's called plagiarism. PS: It's you're. It'd probably be too embarrassing to credit the source. I've found the same rant posted on other sites as far back ...

Re: Wow, you guys messed up with Mint 19

To me such rant threads amount to this: It is much easier shouting "Wow, you guys messed up with Mint 19", than admitting "Wow, I messed up my Mint 19 installation". I want to know how Mint was able to corrupt USBs - that's a pretty good trick! It is a pointless thread isn't it, the OP doesn't give...

Prime was a copy of the Honeywell computer originally iirc. Another nugget was an Italian CNC control, Fidia, it was a copy of a PDP-11 it came preconfigured with the options you had ordered, but all the options were in there just disabled with parameters... we figured it out and could order the ch...

Hi Rev, that was an enjoyable read and you have a great memory for all the technical details. A good old trip down memory lane and it got me thinking back on my own route into tech. Leaving school and looking for a job back in the late 70s, a friend of my fathers was a mate of an IT manager for a br...

Re: preparing video for wordpress?

I may be misinterpreting your requirement here, but I believe with a standard Youtube account you can upload a 15 minute / 20gb file. If you want longer/larger you can verify your account allowing up to 120gb upload. I think Youtube probably then does it's own compression to the file so viewing does...

Re: Curious - When Does Nemo 4.0 Make it to Mint 19?

I just read Clem's latest blog post, and it all sounds really awesome. I can't wait to experience the improvements 4.0 will bring, and I hope the .1 release gives more 18.x users faith, confidence, and incentive to upgrade. It has with me. Over the last number of years I've normally upgraded as soo...

if i'm understanding Clem's latest blog article correctly, looks like it surfaces in 19.1? Adding some weight to this. While the blog does not mention 19.1, that's what those changes are scheduled for. Hi GM10, thanks for confirming that. I noticed that Clem's reply to one of the comments stated th...

Re: Linux Mint Forum Possible Bug

What you're seeing is indicative of a slow load, or slow browser processing, of the forum CSS (stylesheet) files. These are the elements that define the site layout, colours etc. Browsers tend to cache the CSS files so that they are not downloaded each time you visit a site, but that also depends on...
