Re: Kernel 5.8.0 appeared today

Hi SMG, In your situation, I would keep the latest 4.15 kernel (presuming you have one installed) since it is the LM19 LTS kernel and one or two of the 5.4 kernels. This is wrong advice...The OP, when i asked what series of Mint he was running before deciding what kernel series to use, replied he w...

Welcome Polaroid,

Linux Mint might be even closer to home than you think, Westmeath to be precise! And yep, there's at least one Corkonian here as well :)

Have fun :)

Re: Links within the forum fail

It's interesting that the links work ok when you're logged out. Nothing apart from the forum software and your browser should be aware of login state. I know you've tried a load of things, but might be worth logging out, clearing all cookies and cache, and then login again - see if that makes any di...

Re: Links within the forum fail

It seems to be more of a redirect than a block. What happens if you right click on a link, 'Copy link location', and paste it into a new URL bar? Also, what happens if you click on the site logo - does it take you to the home page? Edit: And also, do you get the same thing happening when you are log...

Re: Why is the website so fugly?

Seriously though, you sort have to look at it as if you were not a LM user. Maybe not even a Linux user. Then ask would it hook you? I was that non Linux user until three years ago when I adopted Mint. It wasn't the appearance of the OS that attracted me, nor was it the number of bells and whistles...

Re: Why is the website so fugly?

For my part I don't much care what the web site looks like as long as it works. After all I rarely look at it for than once or twice per year. That's coz it's not the Mona Lisa! :) Seriously though, you sort have to look at it as if you were not a LM user. Maybe not even a Linux user. Then ask woul...

Re: Why is the website so fugly?

The LM website build is an area of interest to me too. I agree it's dated, and I think the OS would benefit from a cleaner online representation of itself. As an exercise I did actually do a mock-up build earlier this year. It was more a personal little project just to see what was possible, and to ...

Re: Does Nemo lag or freeze things when loading large image folders?

It's a known problem : https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/issues/2291 It's also one I'm very interested in as I have folders with many images. I'm running 19.3 and disabling thumbnails helped to a fair degree. LM20 apparently saw some major Nemo performance improvements which I believe made things a ...

Hmm. FancyDandy's post went through. I wonder who that might be.
Well I guess it neatly wraps this thread up, in that it's clear now why Rteps comments were getting moderated. Justifiably so in my opinion.

Re: Listen to users.

Clem "moderate" my post about ungoogled Chromium browser and it is there now. Before that he CENSORED my post and Is it NOT there! Common sense.... I'm thinking this is probably not worth the effort, but I'll try once again anyway. Your post wasn't censored, it was put in a moderation queue where i...

Ah the 'Aztex' they were well behind the times. You've got to go as far back as Adam and Eve, they had an Apple, with a byte. Since then things have progressed and we're now exploring Artificial Intelligence with initiatives such as the Genesis project. It's quite possible that new neurobiological b...

Re: Computer?

It is something that costs me too much money, makes me spend too much time doing irrelevant things, pisses off my wife, doesn't last long enough, is outdated too quickly, and never performs as promised..... I'm probably asking for trouble here, but one could therefore argue that wives and computers...

Re: where's the "make link"?

Mint 19.3 Cinnamon I'm on 19.3 Cinnamon. Right click doesn't work for me either, but if I left click to select then click on Edit in the top menu the make link is there in th dropdown menu. Bob That's handy to know (doesn't appear in right click here either). Or easier - just select the folder or f...

Re: Setting up email client (Thunderbird?)

After you click on Write to start a new email, drag an attachment over the mail message. An attachment pane will automatically open on the right and you just drop the attachment there. Voila! :) This does not work for me. If I drag a file to the email it just pastes the text file:///home/a/Desktop/...

Re: Setting up email client (Thunderbird?)

Still, it seems things in Thunderbird require more clicks and steps than what I am used to in Outlook Express. In OE, to attach a file to an email I can just drag and drop from the desktop to the email but in Thunderbird I need to open a dialogue window, navigate, select the file by name, etc. Afte...

:) Nice work again sebastjava, I've just installed and am using Mint-Dark icons with darkest mint Controls and Desktop. They all work very well together. My only dilemma now is do I say goodbye to the Numix-Circle icons which have so elegantly graced my desktop for ages, ah decisions decisions! Well...

Re: adblocker the other way with block tracker

Just wanted to jump in here to say that the step-by-step instructions provided by " Mick-Cork " seemed to work well. The script ran and sourced the entries for the hosts file, backed-up the 9 line original file to hosts.bak and generated a 29,193 line hosts file. The "Create new launcher here" entr...
