Thanks for the heads-up Catweazel. Just reading about it now and the new Monterail TB theme looks interesting as well - https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/04/a-m ... theme-font

Re: I would LOVE to use LInux Mint but...

I'm not sure what the purpose of your post is, other than to pop in and just tell people on a LM forun that you're now using Ubuntu. It would probably have been more constructive to ask for a bit of guidance before giving up. Maybe you're right - no hope. Anyway, just so you don't keep going round i...

Re: Epson xp-640 printer printing blank pages

hi Confusious, Just to let you know I have an Epson XP-640 running fine with Cinnamon / LM 18.3. I bought it before the official Epson driver was released and I used one of the generic Epson drivers initially. At that point I could print, but not scan. When the official XP-640 driver became availabl...

Re: Will Mint 19.x contain Ubuntu's diagnostics data collection?

The following was posted by Clem in the comments of the January Monthly News blog post... Yes, Ubuntu is the best base to build Linux Mint 19. Yes, it will be used. No, we won’t have stats or data going from your computer towards upstream in Linux Mint 19. We’re not quite sure yet how this will be i...

Re: Do you use Windows?

Have been totally LM for about five years. One hiccup during that period was when I bought a Laptop with W7 on it. That lasted approx 3 weeks before the withdrawal symptoms got too much and I installed 17. Apart from the normal browsing, photos and music stuff I also have xampp and NetBeans installe...

Re: Cinnamon randomly crashes

Hopefully someone will be along with a more forensic approach, but just to mention that since upgrading to 18.3 (four weeks ago) I haven't had any probs at all. Prior to that I'd started getting random Cinnamon crashes roughly every day or two. I never got to diagnose it and so will probably always ...

Like the look of that. Is it actually called 'Scale'? Had a look for it but couldn't find.

Re: Menu question

I am removing it from my panel even though I liked the thumbnails because that running info really clutters up the panel. Check out the Applet 'Icing Task Manager'. It gives you the option to show the App Icon only. I ditched 'Window List' in favour of it as I like to have a lot of launchers in the...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 Backgrounds

Hi Ozo, See that '+' button down on the bottom left of the 'Backgrounds' window - click on it and you should be able to add any folder on your system. I created a new folder called wallpapers that I use to keep images in that I want to use for the desktop. (Not sure if the same option exists in MATE?)

Re: Removing text from bottom panel tabs.

Are you referring to the tabs for open apps? On 18.2 and 18.3 Cinnamon I've been using the 'Icing Task Manager' Applet to hide the app titles (and show the icon only). I've also set it to show a thumbnail when an icon is hovered over. Here's a screenshot example (click to enlarge)... https://i.imgur...

Re: getting command lines into the boot

On Cinnamon you can add custom startup commands via menu/preferences/Startup Applications. Open Startup Applications, click on 'Add' at bottom of the window, select 'Custom Command', give the command a name of your choice, and enter the actual command in the 'Command' box, and click on 'Add'. Not su...

Duplicate LMCE 18.3 Nemo Toolbar Icons

This is a pretty minor aesthetic thing - running Cinnamon 18.3 and noticed that I have duplicate Toolbar icons in Nemo, namely the toggle buttons for Icon View and Compact View. It looks like the Compact View button is using the Icon image. I can't remember if it was the same in 18.2 or whether it's...

Re: Menu Not Perfect 18.3 Cinnamon

Whilst you're trying to solve this I wonder whether the Cinnamenu applet would be useful. I'm using it in place of the default menu on LM Cinnamon 18.3 and haven't had any problems. I initially installed it under 18.2 and it did give a warning during install (that I was aware of in advance) but succ...

Re: Proble with the boolmarks bar

Hmmm, I'm running FF57 and at the far right of the URL bar there are three buttons: Page Actions, Save To Pocket, and the Bookmark This Page star.
CTR/D also displays the bookmarks pop-up window.

Don't think I did anything special to display it, but maybe there's a setting somewhere?

Re: Optimising for a high resolution screen.

Hi Rick,

The option definitely exists in 18.3 Cinnamon stable. Under Panel Settings the 'Use customised panel size' toggle needs to be ticked/turned on. The Text and icon scaling toggle can then be set on and the panel height adjusted.

Re: Mint upgrade from 18.2 to 18.3: configuration-files

How about taking a different approach:

1. Restore to 18.2 using Timeshift
2. Turn off antivirus and screensaver
3. Update spices
4. Repeat the 18.3 update process.

Re: If Linux went away, what would you use?

If Linux disappeared i'd likely end up with Craniotomy Stable V1.0, as it would do my head in trying to make another choice :)

Seriously - prob WIN7, but that or OSX would still rankle!
