Re: youtube to mp3

If this isn't one of the online sites you've tried, it's well worth a look: https://mp3paw.com

I've used it a number of times without any issue, and from what I can see it gets its files from Youtube.

Re: What happened to Cinnamenu?

I noticed that, too. Somebody must be maintaining it. I think there were some improvements made, as well. It seems much faster now. I think you must be right - I just had a Cinnamenu applet update come through. I reinstalled it a week or so ago (Cinnamon 19.3) but it still seemed to have lag at tha...

Re: .mkv media player?

Haven't tried it myself but how about uploading to an online conversion site, eg: http://www.convertfiles.com/convert/vid ... o-MP4.html

If it fails to convert then it might point you towards a file issue.

Re: .mkv media player?

Hard to guess what might be the issue, but if it were me I think I'd try playing them on a different bit of hardware first just to make sure it isn't a file problem. If you have an android device how about transferring one of the files to it, install an MKV player, and see whether it'll play there o...

Re: How to effectively introduce Linux (Mint) to potential users?

Not sure if it's something you'd be up for, but you could create your own resource based on, e.g, an updated version of this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8ik8pDTgJE You could focus it on LM only, and keep the terminology as simple as used in this example. This would allow you to introdu...

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

I need to go to the supermarket today, because supplies are running low. I used to enjoy doing that, but I'm not looking forward to it now: supermarkets have become creepy places full of scared people. In their aisles, you can't avoid having to pass people closer by than the advised 1.5 metre dista...

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

From that Guardian article: "Herd immunity is normally created by vaccinating large numbers of children, safeguarding those who cannot be inoculated. Nobody has ever tried to do that by allowing infection with a disease before – and now, it appears to have been recognised that it’s not safe to try....

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

Just got back from a supermarket: people were still, as always, touching supermarket shopping carts with their bare hands. Well, let's hope that they wash or sterilize their hands right afterwards. We can hope... I've been using my own shopping bag, and showing the empty bag to the cashier ...

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

That's because they got more scared by all that they hear and see than ever before. From known flu, in the previous years, they used to stay and die at their homes thinking it will pass so, not cramming hospitals like they do now. In Italy, as in most countries, it's the medical authorities who dec...

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

Common flu kills 0,1% infected people, Coronavirus kills over 3%, so it is about 30 times killable. Maybe that reason causes the "mass-hysteria". ? That doesn't add up... How come then that only 4,000 world-wide died from a "more killable" virus for which there is no remedy yet, compared to 57,000 ...

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

What I find increasingly difficult to decide, as the epidemic progresses: how deeply should I let the epidemic influence my social life? Exactly the same thought process here. We're up in the hills of West Cork, Ireland, but are sociable and friendly with close neighbours. We have about an acre and...

This Twitter thread (20 messages) from a doctor in Northern Italy (Bergamo) doesn't bode much good for us: https://twitter.com/silviast9/status/1236933818654896129 (click on "Show This Collection" in order to see all messages in the thread) And one from Lombardy here (equally worrying): https://twi...

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

Here in ROI we have no reported cases as yet, but only a matter of time I suspect. A Northern Ireland resident reported positive yesterday, having flown back from Italy to Dublin and then taken public transport (train) to the north. Make of that what you will. In this household we're being cautious,...

There are other methods other than cookies, one example being browser fingerprinting. You'll find a good overview here: https://pixelprivacy.com/resources/browser-fingerprinting/ , as well as some tips on how to limit remote tracking. When i visit https://amiunique.org/fp it reports that my fingerpr...

Re: WordPress installed but can't find it

I've run Wordpress on my local computer in the past, but as far as I know you have to set up a local server environment first (i.e, to replicate a web server). I installed xampp (https://www.apachefriends.org/download.html) to provide the server functionality and then downloaded and installed Wordpr...

Re: Need Help To Get Google Calendar To Work

I'm not sure if you specifically want to use Google Calendar For The Desktop, but I have Gnome Calendar running on LM19.3 Cinnamon and it synchronises fine in both directions. I can add, edit or delete events either via the desktop app or in the Google calendar itself and the changes appear in both....
