Re: Linux Mint 17 MATE problems with font loading...

the only real difference could be the way iptables are handled on Mint17,
do you use a local firewall?

so it's there but won't let you access it.
double check that the user is part of the font server and has been granted access.

Re: Mobile broadband ok in Mint 16 but not in Mint 17

maybe you could try the newer version of modem manager and check if it fixes something, still puzzled by the fact you have no gateway being defined...

Re: Wifi not connecting at my college? (Linux Qiana Cinnamon

 too many attempts and not the right settings? the "normal" script blocks it. Good to know they have enforced rules and don't just let anyone access the wifi.
Talking to people has always seem to me being the best way to resolve problems.
Don't forget to mark it as closed please.

Re: Linux Mint 17 MATE problems with font loading...

check that you can contact it successfully by retrieving a list of the fonts that it provides. You can do
this using the fslsfonts command, as in the following example:

Code: Select all

fslsfonts -server IP : 7100

This should display a long list of available fonts.

Re: LMDE Cinnamon won't stay off at powerdown/shutdown

Running apt-get dist-upgrade will generally update most, if not all, of the items that have been held back for a reason so may actually do more harm.
Make sure you have a solid backup before doing it.

Re: LMDE Cinnamon won't stay off at powerdown/shutdown

some PCs have an option to keep power on usb devices even if shutdown (for example to charge a mobile phone)
check your bios if this is the case and disable it to test.

Re: Load LM from hard drive

It's easy to do this as long as you have a unit with ide connection (not sata) or you could buy an ide/sata to usb adapter (and you can use it later on to use external drives as storage) an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-to-IDE-SATA-S-ATA-2-5-3-5-HD-HDD-Adapter-Cable-/180550148600

Re: Did i install the Kernel 3.16.3 correct?

mintupdate will still provide the distro packages including kernel updates but if you check in package manager view, Linux kernels it should show that 3.16 is installed.
Also if you manually install a kernel don't install the level 5 updates through mintupdate as they may conflict.
