Re: Package for system specs
inxi is the tool, especially if you need to post the output. Wished Windows had something like it back when I was using Windows. Not as good IMO, hardinfo is a tool with GUI output and looks a lot like Everest Windows utility. You can install hardinfo package from Package Manager or by running: sudo...

Re: USB hub recognised but not working
Thanks Spearmint2. Yes tried unplugging everything, except the hub, and plugging just the mouse into the hub. Doesn't work. Same with just the keyboard. No it's an unpowered one. But would have thought, with 4 ports on the Mac, all unused except the one with the hub, and with only one mouse in the ...

Either method should work, both involved booting into Windows safe mode. Method posted by pbear uses CLI with alternative for after Creator update, tenforums method uses "msconfig".

Re: Dualbooting Mint, the installer shows no partitions available
And there it is (I think), athi's RAID controller. So I'll have to change modes from RAID to AHCI? And thank you for your help! there is a way to convert RAID to AHCI without reinstallation. what is this conversion method you mentioned? Given my luck with the first how-to guide, I'd rather get it c...

Re: Dualbooting Mint, the installer shows no partitions available
What is the SATA mode? Dell have been shipping Intel machines with SATA in RAID mode on new machines for a while and Linux does not have Intel RAID driver. Please boot into Mint live session and run below command and post results to see if the drive is in RAID mode. Changing SATA mode from RAID to A...

Don't know what to tell you, you sounds like you have some experience with this. Try these 3 boot parameters, one might work. acpi_osi=! acpi_osi='Windows 2009' or acpi_osi='!Windows2015' or acpi_osi=Linux Found something on this forum about B450 Aorus mobo and Ryzen 5 2400G: https://forums.linuxmin...

Re: Failure to USB Boot for New SSD Clean Install
You can download the latest version of Ubuntu (19.04) with the 5 series kernel and see if you can boot with that. If that works, you can make another post asking how to upgrade the kernel while booting into Mint live USB/DVD. Also, have you updated the firmware to the latest f42d? https://www.gigaby...

Re: Failure to USB Boot for New SSD Clean Install
Looks like you cannot fully load Mint live session.Set firmware to legacy BIOS or UEFI with CSM or UEFI (disable UEFI secure boot if in UEFI mode). Legacy BIOS is simpler and will install with MBR partition table. UEFI will install with GPT partition table with more complexity but also more capable ...

Re: Something wrong with the pricing?
Are the cartridges with the new printer as big as a standard cartridge? No, retail printers typically comes with "starter cartridge" which are rated for much lower page count (50% or less). Would you actually notice a difference in print quality? Compatible replacement toner cartridges to...

She really made an impact. I thought she would be teaching for at least another ten years, and hoped my youngest daughter could have been blessed to take her classes. Alas it is not to be. Oh well she is in the afterlife having tea with the greats. Condolences on the loss of your friend and mentor.

Re: Can't install on HP Omen Laptop
Good, getting some progress. If not done already, disable UEFI secure boot and see if you can fully boot. If still not working, do the "nomodeset" boot parameter again from the GRUB menu, this should get you to boot fully into Mint. Then run Timeshift to set a restore point so you can roll...

Re: Can't install on HP Omen Laptop
Ok, you cannot boot into Mint live session. Try adding "nomodeset" boot parameter: - Start, wait for GRUB menu and select advance option (No GRUB? Press and hold left 'Shift' key during startup). - Press the 'e' key - Use the arrow keys to go down to the line starting with 'linux' and add ...

Hiyall, No doubt you'll be at least relieved if not pleased to know that I now have a dual-boot set up on T440p#2. Currently I use Linux Mint (Debian) XFCE with no tricks or improvements, but with ssd sata drive. I am about to compile own kernel.
