Re: Sophos Linux Anti Virus

Point (a) is a non sequitur. You have no obligation to protect the PC of someone who insists on running Windows. For your last point, when an app is not needed then all it contributes to the system is one more possible security hole. Better to remove it and get back what ever cpu cycles and disk sp...

Re: Small issue with Bing Maps

Running Mint 17.2 on both, installed on the same day IIRC. I'm sure I didn't do anything different from one to the next. Since I'm running Silverlight to make my app work, perhaps there is a difference in the way Wine was/is configured. That's the only thing I can think of at the moment. Now that I ...

Small issue with Bing Maps

I'm running an app that uses Bing maps to track fleet vehicles. On my laptop no problem, on desktop the following message appears on map: Invalid Credentials. Sign up for a developer account at: http://www.microsoft.com/maps/developers Anybody know how to kill the message? It's not the end of the wo...

Re: Silverlight in Wine for Netflix?

The latest stable version of Firefox 49.0.1 64-bit includes Widevine plugin so users can watch/use DRM content online. If you have problems with Netflix just install User Agent Switcher and have it point to Firefox 47 or 50 in Windows browsers. I have been using it since a clean install of Linux Mi...

Re: Silverlight in Wine for Netflix?

I have tried like crazy to get Silverlight working using: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pipelight/stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install --install-recommends pipelight-multi sudo pipelight-plugin --update Not sure what I need to do next to make it work. I am trying to run a program that track...

Re: After power outage, unable to open a certain web page

spoke too soon I guess. now I cannot access the site on my laptop. i tried the same commend on the laptop so maybe that was a red herring. driving me bananas because i can load any other page except that one. I'm beginning to think the power outage was a red herring too. I recently took Mint updates...

After power outage, unable to open a certain web page

Running Mint 17.2, Firefox browser. We had a power outage last night and my desktop powered down. Now I cannot access my website (the desktop computer was logged in on the aforementioned website at the time of power outage) The host is able to access the website. Re: I need to turn 27 pages into one pdf

Both Simple Scan and Xsane would have done the job. In Xsane in the main window you just need to select Multpage in the drop down at the top of the page and then select PDF in the drop down named Type. A new window will open. Create a project by giving it a name and then use the Scan button in the ...

Re: I need to turn 27 pages into one pdf

thought I'd come back and let folks know what I did. I went to the print shop and they wanted $1 page to scan to my thumb drive, so I told them no thanks. I came back to home base and scanned each page one-by-one and then merged all 27 pages into one pdf using pdfsam. very cumbersome but I seldom ne...

Re: I need to turn 27 pages into one pdf

Thanks everybody. I'm up against a 5PM Eastern time deadline here in Atlanta so this time I may take the job to UPS store which is 2 minutes away, but it would still be nice to know for next time ***edit I played hell getting this scanner to play nice with Linux anyway, so I'm glad I can at least sc...

Re: I need to turn 27 pages into one pdf

Do you have a Scanner? I believe xsane can do multi-page scans to .pdf Yeah I have a scanner and for one page I usually go to Graphics/GIMP Image Editor/File/Create/ScanGear and then export the scan to pdf, but in this case I'm not immediately seeing a multi-page option. The ScanGear GUI does not h...

Re: Wireless Keyboard / No Caps Lock Light

Hi peteetongman, I do not know why it would just stop for you after a weeks use, but yes, you can just try re-installing it. Maybe it is already in your installed applets, and you just need to add it, again from your system tray panel. Perhaps something you did recently affected it... You could als...

Re: Wireless Keyboard / No Caps Lock Light

Hi peteetongman, Okay, since you are using Cinnamon 17.2, here are some ideas for this. Items #2 & #3 should work with any edition of Linux Mint. Item #3 has a few good indicators, including a keylock indicator. You might be able to use the one I mentioned before, although I do not know if it will ...

Wireless Keyboard / No Caps Lock Light

this problem is admittedly my fault for lack of homework, but I bought a cheap little GearHead wireless keyboard KB5195w and have discovered the unit has no caps lock light or any other indicator lights except a low battery light. Once again, I realize this is my fault for not reading first, but I h...
