Re: Desktop
billyswong! Again, thank you! Actually, just now, on my desktop computer, I got to the font chart (with many variations) by left-clicking on the "Ubunto Regular" panel. Though I tried scrolling the mouse, (and I don't understand "dragging the scrollbar"), again, I thought I shoul...

Re: Desktop
Again billyswong, Thank you VERY much!!! First, I probably never would have found this on my own, even though “Appearances” is clearly marked. I would have thought it referred to the Desktop background and nothing more. Now my icons have size 8 (versus size 10) fonts, and look real good along with b...

Re: Desktop
To decrepit, billyswong, and all, Before I got the post from decrepit, I somehow solved the immediate problem. I wish I could be more clear as to what I did, but it was probably similar to what is suggested by decrepit. At any rate, whatever I did shrunk my desktop down to fit the size of my monitor...

(Solved)Re: Documents that end with ".odt".
To Schultz and all, After three days of getting nowhere, and this is my fault, not yours, I took my computer back to the shop and had the new 2.0 Tb drive loaded with a new copy of Linux Mint Mate, and nothing else. Since I first started using Linux (and I don't remember exactly how that started), I...

(Solved)Re: Change from Xfce to Mate
To All; After spending three days trying unsuccessfully to figure this out, I went back to the computer shop and told the owner that I actually wanted Mint Mate, and I didn't care about whatever was on my old 512 drive (He had set me up with both the old 512 and a new 2.0Tb drive in my desktop). He ...

Re: Desktop
To Pjotr and all, Since I don't know what "Physical" means exactly, I tried pressing the buttons on the side of my monitor, marked "Auto/OK, a picture of a monitor/+, a picture of a speaker/-, and the word Menu". Sadly, when I pressed these buttons, whatever window opened up just...

Desktop
I just had a new drive put in my computer, and asked to have Linux Mate installed, which all worked out. The problem is now that I got the computer home, and plugged into my keyboard and monitor, the monitor looks like the desktop is too big to fit. That is, it looks like the desktop needs a bigger ...

Re: Change from Xfce to Mate
To diabolicbg, First, thank you for your attention, as you seem to be the only one who is responding. Next, I misspoke when I referred to my new drive as “120”, as it I should have called it “2.0 T”. Next, your last post ends with “the next time you start it up it will load Xfce.”, and this is not w...

Re: Change from Xfce to Mate
To All, My problem, having Xfce instead of Mate on my desktop, started recently when I had a new drive put in at a computer shop. The owner, who did the upgrade, told me ahead if time that he is not used to Linux. Since I am not exactly a whiz at this stuff, I was happy to get my computer back with ...

(Solved) Change from Xfce to Mate
Hello, First, I have tried to find a solution to my question by typing various things in this forum (like how to change from Xfce to Mate, and many similar subjects) and end up with LITERALLY thousands of responses. I managed to find one, "Re: Upgrade to 22", (dated Mar 20, 2024), but I do...

Re: Documents that end with ".odt".
billyswong, My two laptops were loaded by myself. Sadly, I have never had a good memory, and at 77 years old (78 in June), it barely exists, so I don't remember how I did it! The only thing that I can confirm is that I made the choice because of something that "Windows" did that I didn't l...

Re: Documents that end with ".odt".
To billyswong, I cannot believe your patience!!!! And, as usual, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! Now, I looked at this post just as I was "out the door" for some errands. So.....before I come back, perhaps you, or someone, can tell me if it is possible to switch to Mate? For some reason, I believe...

Re: Documents that end with ".odt".
To All, My first statement is “Thank you” for your attention. Now, since I barely understand some of the responses, I will simply put the problem icon (if that is what it is called) next to the related icon that works; that is, I have a clickable link (icon) to Facebook, and I put the Facebook logo ...

Re: Documents that end with ".odt".
To Shultz,
You are answering my questions faster than I can type them!!!!
I haven't figured out exactly how to put the answers in the correct format yet, and I am in a hurry to leave, but in the Xfce Terminal it says, "Xfce 4.18.1".
I won't be back for a couple hours.....

Re: Documents that end with ".odt".
I guess I don't know how to answer your question.....or how to find the answer. By the way, while I was waiting, I entered "Which Desktop" in the search box, and got over 50,000 posts! So I haven't learned how to answer your question yet. It is now almost 3 PM here and I am going to take c...

Re: Documents that end with ".odt".
I am using, "Linux Mint 21.3".
Please believe me when I say that I have clicked on everything available on the window with no luck before I would bother the forum. This problem is not because of laziness, I just can't get it to work....

Re: Documents that end with ".odt".
First, thank you for your response. Now, the window that comes up when I click on “Properties” does not look like your window, and I have not figured out how to copy and paste it, so I will try to describe it…. Across the top are tabs for General, Emblems, Highlight, and Permissions. Clicking in the...

(Solved) Documents that end with ".odt".
Since my computer screen is virtually covered with symbols, probably actually known as quick links, or icons, or something like that, (at any rate, I click on them to get to places on the Internet, or in my computer). I have been able to put relevant symbols on most of them, for instance, I put the ...

Re: (Solved)GNU GRUB screen
To billyswong, Again, a thousand thanks; I never expected that someone out there would care about me after all these fruitless posts. By the way, I did try cutting the numbers in the OSD exercise with the same lack of results, but it was very intuitive of you to suggest it. Though according to respo...

(Solved)GNU GRUB screen
A few days have gone by with no more responses, so I guess there probably isn't going to be a solution. As far as I'm concerned, my solution is to turn on one of my laptops to view anything that is cut-off on my desktop. That probably isn't considered a solution, but I am going to mark this as "...
