Re: mint 17 1 software manager won't search
I see exactly the same behaviour on my system, hitting 'enter' on the keyboard, however, does perform the search. I believe this is the intended behaviour as the 'search icon' was present in older versions of software manager where it used to search while typing and so had no need for a 'search butt...

Re: Qiana won't do updates
If the above (posted by Pierre) doesn't work then try opening Software Sources from the main menu, then click the Maintenance button on the left, next click the Fix Merge List button and when that has completed Update the Cache using the button at the top. With any luck this will fix your Merge List...

Re: Mint 17 xfce - no Hot Corner [Solved]
You're welcome Rob. I have both Cinnamon and Xfce installed on separate partitions and find myself using Xfce usually, mostly because it seems a little snappier on my system, but also because once I've added my favourite theme and tweaked it to my liking I don't actually miss any of the extra featur...

Re: Mint 17 xfce - no Hot Corner
Hi Rob and welcome to Linux Mint :) 'Hot Corners' and 'Expo' are a Cinnamon feature and not available in Xfce (as far as I am aware), so it would seem that the information you read was for Mint Cinnamon. As Cinnamon is the Desktop Environment created by the Mint team, most reviews of Mint focus on t...

Re: Thumb drive formating fails
You'll probably want to know that Mint 16 is no longer supported or receiving updates, including security fixes. You may want to take a look at this thread:- Still using Linux Mint 14, 15, or 16? Upgrade to 17 asap!Mikro wrote:I'm using Mint Cinnamon 16 64 bit Petra.

Assuming that output is showing your machine under usual usage then nothing leaps out at me personally, that doesn't mean others won't spot anything though. I do notice that you are using 2355.1MB out of 3020.8MB RAM which may lead to your machine suddenly using a lot of swap space, and hence seemin...

Re: Updating existing LMDE 1 Systems to LMDE 2
Yes that explains much. Thank you. You're welcome :) In one of the other threads somebody mentioned that a check box option to force an apt-get update upon launch would be a good compromise between the two designs. Makes sense to me. I have to say I agree, that does seem like a good compromise that...

Re: Updating existing LMDE 1 Systems to LMDE 2
Works fine here. After 30 minutes (as set in the preferences) it refreshes the package index and shows me the usual 'i' icon. Okay. I am using the same settings as LMDE 1. Seems now the preference acts as a timeout rather than an interval. In LMDE 1 the Notifier changed icon status immediately afte...

The option for 'none' is found using the 'Style' button in your screenshot.

Re: Permission Denied
In your file manager you can just right-click a directory and select to open it as root (Xfce might implement this somewhere else in its file manager menu, not too familiar with it). That option is also available with a right click in Thunar on Xfce.. the only difference is the wording, it says &qu...

It's a keeper ..... /snip/.... it's great! :) I have no doubt about any of that :D I was attempting, however, to point out an apparent typo... LXDE 2 Cinnamon.. Either that's a new double desktop installation or you meant LMDE 2 Cinnamon as the screenshot indicates  Next time I'll simply s...

Re: wine included app
Is my memory wrong? or have I confused another distro? I believe the answer is yes to one of the above.. I've been running Mint since 16 and Wine wasn't installed by default on 16, 17 or 17.1 in my experience. Of course, as you can install it from software manager in just a few clicks one can see h...
