Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!

I've been taking Kubuntu 18.04.2 for a test drive for the past 3 days and it's been smooth sailing. Boot-up and shutdown times are very good. I've found 1 bug in Dolphin though. When I click in the left sidebar under "Drives" to mount a partition, I get a BIG red scary box informing me there was an ...

Re: What type of computer or device do you primarily use?

An old (Nov 2011) cheapie eMachines desktop. Currently multi-booting 8 distos with a shared 500GB data partition. I'm planning on re-formating to lower that number to just 3 or 4 if the HDD holds up. :D The wife uses a laptop with Linux Mint of course. I've offered to reinstall Windoze and she said ...

Re: Do I need to upgrade Linux (from 17.3 Rosa)?

Today, I tried opening a 75MB jpeg image (using Image Viewer 3.10.2), and the thing just froze. I had a couple of other apps open at the time, so I rebooted (had to hold the power button to force a shutdown, it was that bad), and opened it again immediately after startup. It managed, but took a lon...

Re: PlayOnLinux- "files mismatch" error

This seems to be the error encountered: Error in POL_Download POL_Download - MD5 sum mismatch ! (1 attempt) Any ideas on how to proceed? The install script is looking for a specific (earlier/different) program version from what's available from the program's web site. Therefore the MD5 sum mismatch.

Re: Shutdown issue - Keyring-Daemon still running

Re: Keyring-Daemon still running Apologies if I've entered this in the wrong place! I’ve no solutions, just observations and questions! Like several other Mint users, I have the ‘Keyring-Daemon still running’ problem when trying to shut down. I have Mint 18.3 Cinnamon, Kernel 4.13.0 running on two ...

Re: Update Manager Close this dialog after successfully applying changes

This behaviour occurs when the "Apply changes in a terminal window" is ticked in the settings of Synaptic. When un-ticked the Update Manager terminal works as expected. It appears that when ticked in Synaptic settings, the update manager uses the same terminal window as Synaptic, but doesn't obey th...

Re: Update Manager Close this dialog after successfully applying changes

The behavior of this dialog gets controlled by synaptic, the same dialog in the update manager does only seemingly allow to change it. Open synaptic and install anything. During installation you get the same dialog; change the behavior as you want. Afterwards it should have in the update manager th...

Update Manager Close this dialog after successfully applying changes

I've installed LM 18.3 KDE a few days ago and the terminal window in the update manager closes immediately after apply changes, even though the "Close this dialog after successfully applying changes" tickbox is unchecked. It's just the terminal window only, not the update manager itself. The "Hide t...

Re: Different appearance / look of desktop icons when copied

The ones showing up different are ".desktop" files. The path to their icons are non-existent on the USB stick, therefore you will see the generic .desktop icon for these in your file browser. Will this make a different in the appearance and function of the icons if I use the contents of the USB key ...

Re: CD ripping speed

Different encoders will encode at different speeds depending on the format chosen and on the parameters passed on to the encoder. My first reply pertains to ripping speed, the time it takes to "rip" data from the CD, not the encoding time which is a different process.

Re: CD ripping speed

IIRC it could be that Windows Media Player rips in burst mode (don't know for sure, as I've never used it), with no software error correction being performed, relying on the error correction of the drive itself (C2 error correction, if supported). Asunder uses Cdparanoia in ripping compared to burst...

Updated from LM Cinnamon 18.2 to 18.3 today and this issue shows up for me as well. If any update is visible, but not selected, the applet is blue, showing that there is an/are update(s) available.

Re: Screen tearing on Linux Mint 18

Cool I will try more fixes if I find any more tearing, thanks! For me the only tearing seemed to have been in Firefox, and it now seems to have been fixed by setting: gfx.xrender.enabled;true in about:config. I have smooth scrolling turned on and so far I haven't noticed any tearing, so for anyone ...

LTspice, Micro-Cap and foobar2000. I could do without foobar if I had to, but it may be somewhat traumatic for me for a while.

Is this conky google-now? If so open the conkyrc file in a text editor, find and change this line:

to:

Where WOEID is your location code.

Re: Problems in Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon

I shot in the dark (as I did not see the problem and cannot reproduce it): Open the Window settings of Cinnamon -> behavior -> attach dialog windows (wording may differ): set it to off. I have seen this setting before. It's just that I haven't looked into changing it, as I was more concerned with s...
