Re: Kernel Update (SOLVED)

That seemed to work. In the terminal it suggested I use sudo apt autoremove or something which I did and it removed all the old kernels (5 gigs worth!). I didn't do the apt purge --autoremove yet, but I'm assuming one should do that periodically? Thanks for the help everyone.

Re: Kernel Update

Is there a way to stop this From 19.2+ Update Manager handles that automatically, I had added functionality to automatically ensure the proper kernel meta package gets used. So will my own Update Manager from my PPA in my signature. But you don't need to install any of that if you don't want to, ju...

Kernel Update (Solved)

Apologies for bringing this up again, I did find a post but it didn't really address my issue. I'm using Mint 19.1. To fix my touchpad after an update a while back I installed the 5.3 kernel. Everything is working fine, the only problem is that update manager keeps wanting to update the 4 series ker...

Re: Netflix would not load

Don't know if this will help, but I think one of the things I had to do to get Netflix working on Firefox was set it to remember history ie, you can't have it set to delete history/cookies ect when it shuts down.

Re: Live disc vs updated browser

Thanks for that. I don't want to go the persistence route, as I like the fact that nothing is saved to the disc when I shut down. I will definitely look at Tails. Unfortunately with UEFI the whole live disc thing seems to have become more of a pain than before, hence my using the installation disc.

Live disc vs updated browser

Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I'm really paranoid when it comes to internet banking, so I like to use my installation usb as a live disc whenever I bank online. The problem is, over time the browser gets outdated. Is that really such a big deal, in other words, would I in fact be safer ju...

Re: Linux Mint 17.x has reached end of life; upgrade now!

Please forgive me in advance if I ramble on a bit in this post. Having read the posts regarding keeping LM17, here is my situation. I have an LG i5 laptop that currently has LM17.2 32bit XFCE and Windows 7 on a dual boot. I am wanting to set it up for music recording (I know about AVLinux ect) and w...

Re: Some install questions [SOLVED]

I went ahead and installed in UEFI mode, as that seems the way of the future, and everything seemed to go ok. Even my ancient HP laser printer works!
Thanks everybody for the help.

Re: Some install questions

A quick update. I went back into the bios and selected EUFI. The Mint usb still boots, only difference being that this time I got a GRUB menu, whereas before the usb booted straight up. Secure boot is still disabled. Do you think it would be better to stick with EUFI? Thanks

Re: Some install questions

Thank you for the reply, but now I'm confused and worried. Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing, is the compatibility mode the same as legacy? Ideally I would like to just install Mint and be done with it, I can't see myself wanting to install other OS's, except Windows if the whole M...

Re: Some install questions

Thanks. I would like to keep the install as neat as possible, so will probably just have one partition. On my other laptop I do find it a bit of a pain having to look through multiple drives to find stuff. Normally if I want to try another distro I just create a live disc. I have never had a machine...

Re: Some install questions

Thanks guys. I don't think I will go with a dual boot. My other laptop and recently deceased desktop are both dual boot and work perfectly, so no horror stories, but to be honest I hardly ever use Windows. AndyMH, I did make a Windows recovery usb, if that's what you are talking about ( I chose the ...

Some install questions [SOLVED]

I'm writing this on a Lenovo ideapad 130-15IKB, model name 81H7 that I bought literally this afternoon. I downloaded and burned a LM 19.1 usb which I am using at the moment. Everything seems to be working (touchpad, wireless, sound and video) but I have a few questions before I take the plunge. Befo...
