Re: gThumb to download from my camera

I'm happy to report that I replaced gThumb with Rapid Photo Downloader. I'm a but more of a GUI guy so this ended up appealing to me a bit more.... Its only downside is that it doesn't play well with all cameras directly through the USB so luckily I had a card reader which it runs great off of. Good...

Is there an A+ equvilant certification for Linux

I realize it may be a challenge given the multiple different distro's, but is there some type of standard certification similar to the Windows A+ (CompTIA) for Linux?

gThumb to download from my camera

Is there a way that gThumb can rename the photos it donwloads from my camera.

My windows Canon software let me set it to rename the files on download to the date and time it was shot instead of the generic IMG_**** which can conflict with other cameras.

Re: Looking for backup software recommendations

I decided to go with luckybackup, since from my understanding it uses rsync which others recommend too.

I ran the first go, took about 2 hours. I have it set to run at startup, and that runs for about 2 minutes. I'm assuming its just an incremental backup?

Looking for backup software recommendations

I'm looking for backup software. I have a few things I'm looking for it to be able to do....... 1. backup to an external drive 2. backup an external drive (where all the files are) 3. conduct incremental backups 4. backup the windows C drive too I found a similar thread from 2013 referring to luckyb...

Re: What is the correct way to install wine?

Not to derail the OP, but how do you verify if it did in fact install correctly?

I installed it the other night and I didn't get anything asking about fonts or password, aside from the normal admin password request on install.

Re: Canon MG3120 is printing slow and too dark

I tried the Mint store and it wasn't available there, but the repository worked. Once that was installed I went back to the Canon site, installed the rest of the driver package with ease. For anyone else that runs into this, I did have to go into the printer properties and manually change the make/m...

Canon MG3120 is printing slow and too dark

I've gone onto the Canon Asia website and downloaded the common file, it installed no problem. I though the MG3100 series IJ Printer Driver installed fine but I guess it didn't. The printer works, set up on a network, and the scanner works. Now it prints alot slower then on Windows, and the colourin...

Re: Issues with the Mint 17 Live CD

I was able to boot into recovery mode, where it came up with the disclaimer that graphics wasn't fully loaded. Went into terminal and typed the inxi -Gx and got this: Graphics: Card: NVIDIA C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] bus-ID: 00:0d.0 X.Org: 1.15.1 drivers: FAILED : fbdev, vesa, nouveau Resolution...

Re: Issues with the Mint 17 Live CD

Not that I have any clue what I'm doing.......but I tried booting into recovery mode. From there I selected root and typed in a command inxi -Gx, which if I read a different post correctly should have gave into about my graphics card. It returned with Failed to detect video card and N/A for all the ...

Re: Issues with the Mint 17 Live CD

So I had limited success. I did a check sum verification, and it was off. I downloaded again, successful checksum. Burned the DVD and verified on completion. Good to go. Started with the disc, still same issue. :( Restarted, and removed the quiet splash and added the xforcevesa and nomodeset (read t...

Still the same end result.

It boots into the desktop, for split second the mouse works, then it freezes and a moment later it switches to the scrambled screen.

Issues with the Mint 17 Live CD

I've decided to go with Mint 17, 32 bit version on the main computer, but when I boot into the Live DVD, it starts normally with the loader (linux will load automatically type one), then load the logo splash screen. This goes to a black screen where I can see the mouse pointer, and I can move it aro...

Re: Multiple user account but shared folder question

I've actually realized that I won't need to create and share folders like that. Thunderbird and Firefox have their own user management options so the computer can just boot into the family drives, then when we open the browser/email we just select either mom or dad's account and our settings are the...

Home network setup advice

Hello With the number of laptops, desktops and smartphones in the house I'd like to establish a shared network drive for file sharing. I don't want the option to have a dedicated computer always on ready to share files. The home computer will have Linux Mint and dual boot into Windows XP if required...

Re: Multiple user account but shared folder question

Will this make the folders the default ones for documents, music etc; or do I have to re-driect those links in the GUI part?
