Re: GNU Grub menu suddenly shows up [SOLVED]
Training is always a good idea; I always appreciate if a guru trains me. However, I checked this file already a bit earlier, and found the correct entry. Next I decided to run sudo update-grub and the problem was solved; the Grup menu does not show up anymore. I reported in by 52ROSt » 14 Apr 2024 0...

Re: GNU Grub menu suddenly shows up [SOLVED]
@Dan-cer Thanks for for your ongoing help. Windows partitions I got an idea where they could come from. When I ran the command, I had either the SSD of my old PC attached external drive to retrieve data, or I had my Toshiba HDD1 attached to back up my data. Both drives contain VM with Windows OS. Ad...

Maybe it gives you clarification.

Re: GNU Grub menu suddenly shows up [SOLVED]
@Jon-Co I ran the command. Output is below nvme0n1px = partitions of SSD HDD1_Toshiba = is an external HHD on which I'm just making my first databack from the new machine. I am surprised to see here Windows mentioned. Could it be that the command also checks my external HDD? There I have copies of o...

Re: GNU Grub menu suddenly shows up
@Dan-cer, ubuntu & my SSD This is interesting information. I always thought that the normal booting is done from my SSD with an UEFI boot sector. Good go to know that - if needed only - I have to select "ubuntu" and not my SSD. As all my previous LM installation worked to fine I had ne...

Re: GNU Grub menu suddenly shows up
Thanks for all your answers. os-proper - I did it again with os-prober and got no response from the system. This means the command is installed but did not produce an output. This in turn I interprete that there is only one bootable system available. Is my interpretation correct? Next I looked into ...

GNU Grub menu suddenly shows up [SOLVED]
LM 21.3 Cinnamon Edge, updated Since yesterday I am seeing the GNU Grub menu when I start my PC. It is to be seen for 15 - 20 s than booting continues normally. I also can shorten the time by hitting Enter. Is there something, which can be done that the GNU Grub menu does not show up so long before ...

Re: Joplin updates
Thanks for all your interesting replies.
I uninstalled the version from the Joplin homepage and installed the flatpak from the SW manager.
All settings and data remained and I get now my updates through the Update Manager.
Problem solved.

Re: gdebi - where did it go?
Thanks for both of your replies. However, now I am lost a bit because my knowledge of Linux is not yet on a sufficient level. It needs a command-line parameter to a .deb file. Then it works normally. How do I need to do this? Until now synaptic never behaved like this on all my previous LM machines....

Thanks for the hint with the installation using synaptic. I observe a strange behavior. When I enter in the menu line syn, I see the synaptic package manager. gdebi - where did it go?
LM 21.3 Cinammon Edge
I just wanted to use gdebi and saw it is not automatically installed anymore.
Why has it be removed?
What is a good alternative for it?
Thanks for informative replies

Re: Don't find installed app in menu
No I got kfind running. I indeed installed it as a flatpak, which I replaced by a system package. Thereafter I found the file in usr/share/applications but it was not even needed to comment the line with the restricted usage on KDE only. It simply runs as always on my older machines. Thanks to all o...

Re: Joplin updates
What would happen if I, without unstalling the current Joplin desktop SW, install it again from the LM SW Manager?
Alternatively I could uninstall the current version and re-install from LM SW Manager.
What would you propose and why?

Re: GNOME maps - mobile app available?
Thanks for all replies. I am not surprised that there is no GNOME app for Android. However I will see what the OpenStreet Map account to which the GNOME maps can be connected will give me. In Android I using OsmAnd off line maps, with which I only need GPS to find my way. No need to Google Maps. Osm...

Re: Secured Boot in Linux
Thanks for your informative replies. I don't need to enter the password every time when I start my machine. Sorry for being to unprecise. My SSD is not encode. If I recall it right, the password was required when I connected the SSD of my previous PC via an adapter to a USB port on my current PC. Th...
