Re: How to make QPDFVIEW open a file on a USB stick [SOLVED]

Many thanks. That works just fine. I have never needed to access USB sticks that way before, they have always been more directly 'available' for example in "Files" and the Libre Office applications. Wth 20/20 hindsight, I have seen that sort of File Open dialog in some other applications, ...

Re: How to make QPDFVIEW open a file on a USB stick

Thank you, that made me think again. I did not explain the problem very well, and in fact I can open a file on a USB stick. Using 'Files', I can find a file on a USB stick, then right-mouse-button on the file, Open with and I can select qpdfview. If however I start qpdfview, and select File-Open, th...

How to make QPDFVIEW open a file on a USB stick [SOLVED]

LMDE5 64bit Cinnamon I just installed QPDFVIEW. Seems to do to PDF files what I want it to do. But the file open dialog appears to only allow files on the hard drive to be opened. In general, I do not keep data files on my hard drive, but on USB sticks. How do I get QPDFVIEW to open a file on a USB ...

Re: PDF with fillable fields

But it looks like QPDFVIEW will only open files from the hard drive. I can't work out how to make it open a file on a USB stick.

PDF with fillable fields [SOLVED]

LMDE5 64bit Cinnamon There's a PDF form I need to complete that is supplied with fillable fields. What I want to be able to do is open the PDF, complete some of the fillable fields, then save at that point so I can come back later and complete more of the fields. And maybe even a 3rd go. And I'm goi...

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels [SOLVED]

My old TV just died. I bought a new Samsung 24" monitor, and it has OSD adjustments. So, even though the screen was displaced a few pixels, I have been able to adjust things so it is now OK.

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels [no solution]

Just installed a Cinnamon update using Update Manager. Cinnamon now 5.4.12. The pixel displacement at the top of the screen has gone as far as I can see, but I am still losing a couple of pixels at the bottom of the panel.

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels [no solution]

If you mean the OSD of the display itself, I have not found anything in its menu that adjusts the positioning of the output from the PC. There are no physical adjustment buttons. It's an oldish TV, and I see no point in going to an electronics store.

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels [no solution]

Glad to see I'm not the only one to have this problem -er- symptom. I looked at the man pages for xrandr. It was not obvious to me which option I could use to move the screen. Not saying it isn't there :) but it's a bit above my pay grade. If there is such an option, would it need to be executed eve...

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels [solution available ??]

I used Timeshift to restore my last LMDE4 snapshot. I can confirm that with LMDE4 the screen is *not* displaced down by 4 pixels in VGA mode. However, DP/HDMI mode gave the same unusable result as with LMDE5. I tried to use Timeshift to restore my last Timeshift snapshot from LMDE5, but I ended up w...

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels [solution available]

you will notice an immediate improvement in the crispness of the image along with it being properly positioned and sized on the display. It's worth the small outlay I did get a Displayport to HDMI adapter for a very small outlay. Yes, nice crisp image. No, not properly sized and positioned. As best...

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels [solution available]

Many thanks. Yes, definitely Displayport. I looked up the TechRef Manual for the PC, and it says that 'legacy' VGA and Displayport video interfaces are provided and that DP to VGI or DP to HDMI adapters are available.

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels

Thanks for that. My old desktop PC has the full size Displayport. Amazon Australia has a DP-to-HDMI adapter available and if I get really p*ssed off with the pixel offset, I'll probably get one.

Re: LMDE5 screen displaced down by 3 or 4 pixels

Yes, it does have a Displayport. I have no idea what it is, that is I have never used one. Does not appear to be the same shape as an HDMI port, and I don't have any Displayport cables/adapters in my stock of odds-and-ends. So I ignored it.

LMDE5 - problem with PlayonLinux and/or WINE [SOLVED]

Just upgraded from LMDE4 to LMDE5 using mintupgrade. I have been running an old Windows app, Lotus Notes, on LMDE since I was running LMDE2. Worked fine on LMDE2, then on LMDE3 and LMDE4. The last time I updated one of the LotusNotes databases was 28 July 2022, although I have accessed them since th...
