Re: HOWTO: Two Monitors, NVIDIA with misbehaving nouveau dri

...... NINE MONTHS LATER......NEW SYSTEM -- NO NOUVEAU DRIVER HASSLES LEFT in the default install for me. I am at LMDE / Update Pack 4 / Mate Desktop, running on the same computer system. It holds more modern versions of the same technologies as Linux-Mint-11. Package-wise it is of course not a dire...

Re: Mint KDE 13 Release ?

I don't understand the anty KDE sentiment here!!!! The way I see it KDE fills a gap that Gnome can not, to suggest that mint can't equal openSUSE with KDE seems defeatist, so do you believe no point in trying? ? Dear friend, please keep it cool; I respectfully state that you got my post wrong. Of c...

Re: Mint KDE 13 Release ?

I'm running mint kde, and I like it, I agree it's not polished ..... I believe it has more to do with the manpower available to produce that polish... Absolutely d'accord. This is of course a result of KDE being the "step child" of the mint makers openSUSE with kde gives a good example of a polishe...

Re: Mint KDE 13 Release ?

@olligod I would like to think that atleast oldschool, the finest linux usrs/devs likes/improves KDE and relating SW ? I would have thought so, too. But It turns out it is a lot of legwork each time, every time to get the *polish* right. My hopes have almost always been dashed each time, every time...

Re: Mint KDE 13 Release ?

1) So the real answer to my actual question, seems to be, that there is no release schedule. Of course there is a release schedule: release when it's ready  This is a Mint Trademark. If I wanted to install it I would plan for Aug-1st week. 2) I noticed that someone asked the same question at t...

Re: Mint KDE 13 Release ?

Short Version: (1) r.b.y.p. (2) Netrunner-OS! Long Version (1) I don't want to be rude -- but a little research ("read before you post") would have given you an answer for a likely release date. Kubuntu is released April and October; the last Mint-KDE releases always came 3-4 months after that. You ...

Re: java and java

Hi I have just installed lmde, and I would like to add freeplane. When I go to synaptic manager and select freeplane, it also installs the iceteajava plugin. I have previously experienced that some online services (my bank) only would work with the non-free sun java. So I am wondering if I am going...

Re: HOWTO: Two Monitors, NVIDIA with misbehaving nouveau dri

Hi. I already have 270.41.06 NVIDIA Driver Version installed in LM11. Does the same steps apply for upgrading it as well? If I understand your question correctly (or else may I ask that you specify more precisely what the situation is / what you want): Do you current have an already working nvidia ...

Re: Max/Min/Quit Buttons are missing

I've encountered the same bug and the TEMPORARY SOLUTION has my buttons back. Questions remain: Will the PERMANENT SOLUTION be installed via an update? Do I need to run the command line fix every time I use MINT until there's a permanent solution? I already see that I need to keep the terminal open...

Re: Max/Min/Quit Buttons are missing

As of Jul-13: Routine package upgrade fixes it for me! ---------------------------------------------------------------- I did a Mint package upgrade (essentially a routine upgrade) - I noticed that xorg-packages of all kinds were included this time. I also noticed that (as of now; meaning 2 days hen...

Re: Cannot login to Mint KDE

I have this same trouble. I preserved My $HOME folder tree across a "clean install" of Mint-10-KDE. Given the contents of this post, I suspect that there are hidden folder config settings getting in my way. Shouldn't I be able to move or otherwise obscure a few dot-something folders and fix a KDE l...

Hi friend, Welcome! (I think I can speak on behalf of all of the Mint community. First a word of caution: It is often better to run a "native" Mint/Ubuntu/Linux app...

Re: Max/Min/Quit Buttons are missing

Window Decorator - in CompizConfig - seems to be turned off at some people for some unknown reason. When you turn this one on, everything is working again. If it does not work: gtk-window-decorator & If you use this command you don't have to install Unity. Unity is there, and turned "on" (until it ...

HOWTO: Two Monitors, NVIDIA with misbehaving nouveau driver

Situation at the beginning: I run a NVidia GeForce8600 GT -- and need TWO SCREENS, side by side. Upon installation of a new Mint-11, it installs the nouveau driver to work with the NVidia card. General technical solutions for 2 screens: In order to do 2 screens, there are basically two ways to to th...

Re: XFCE10

How do these rolling ditros affect older hardware? i mean can one of the "updates render the mashcine unusable? Like kernel uprgade etc.? You need not worry about kernel upgrades, as your old running kernel remains installed as long as you wish; it takes an action of yours to uninstall it. Oftentim...

Re: Cannot login to Mint KDE

There is always gentle and somewhat "harsher" therapy for every disease... To do anything you may have to resolve the catch-22 (cannot login therefore cannot change things therefore cannot login...) After boot, type ctrl-alt-F1; this should give you a text-login. Go ahead and log in. Just to be sure...

Re: HOWTO LMDE as Virtualbox guest

You need to be root (or possibly do it as sudo). I launched from the command line as root sh /media/cdrom0/VBoxLinuxAdditions-amd64.run Remarks: (1) if you tried it as sudo, you would have to type "sudo" in front of the actual command. (2) The "sh" seemed necessary, otherwise there was a file permi...

Re: XFCE10

I do think it is the intention of clem and others to move several desktop environments, especially the "lighter" ones, to Debian. If done right, this will result in - a lot less work in the future - very stable, good quality rolling release desktops of your choice. It is even considered to move KDE ...

Self-burned DVDs are - in my view - the single-worst storage media (as for reliability) that has been designed in the age of computing.... Must be a youngster. Clearly, you never experienced the joy of using an audiocassette as a storage medium. Not that young ... but indeed I bypassed us...
