Bug on website?

Lately I notice when selecting text on the forum website that is in the code box, by clicking on "Select All," that it adds 4 spaces before the text when you paste it. Why is it doing this? This can "throw" a less-savvy user (and it threw me off for a while a couple days back) as those 4 spaces befo...

Re: Stopping the popup windows?

The link in your signature doesn't tell us what desktop environment (DE) you are using. Is it Cinnamon, Mate, KDE, or Xfce?

If you can't remember, open the terminal and type (or better yet copy-and-paste) the command:

inxi -b

It should say which DE somewhere in the results.

Re: Sophos - Free Linux Malware Scanner - thoughts???

As everyone here on this thread has already said, you don't need AV on Linux. And some long time forum members here (and I trust them) say an AV on Linux actually makes you less secure.

Re: Installing WORDSearch Bible program

Yeah, that sounds like a typical problem with Wine. Even if you can get it working, an update to Wine can break compatibility with a program that had worked on the previous Wine version (so my personal preference is to not even bother with Wine). Did you try LinuxJim's idea as to how to fix the full...

Re: Javascript Not Working in Firefox

Glad you got it figured out. Please mark this thread as "SOLVED."

Also, if you still have Java (by Oracle) installed and you don't use it for anything, I recommend removing it. It's a security nightmare (at least in the not-too-distant past, and I imagine not much has changed).

Re: Javascript Not Working in Firefox

What makes you think javascript isn't running?

Also, please list all of the add-ons you have installed. Maybe the answer lies there.

Re: Questions on systemd

Thanks for the link xenopeek. It sounds like it's something good, but I'm still fairly new to the world of Linux so I don't understand why, if it's something good, systemd gets such hard pushback from some folks.

As Fred Barclay has stated, I too would like to get a mod's or admin's input here (or especially a developer/tester). Anything, anyone? :?

Questions on systemd

I just heard about this systemd issue in the last couple of days, and did a bit of reading up on it. Most of what I read went over my head since, when it comes to computers, I’m only a layman, not a geek (but I do know more than the average Joe walking down the street). There are two questions I hav...

In the link below xenopeek says "This is already on the roadmap to be worked on." (But that has been 3 months ago.)

First you need to tell us how. Dual booting, or inside a virtual machine (i.e., VirtualBox)?

Bottom line, don't install an antivirus. (Unless, like Pjotr said, you're running a mail server.)

I keep a list of KBs to avoid. For Windows 7 I have these below. They are a mix of telemetry, Win 10 nag, and Update Client updates. Does Mint use Graphite font processing library

Does Mint use Graphite font processing library? Article linked below states there is a severe (my word) vulnerability in it. In any event, LibreOffice uses it, so this is one example of where making available in the repos up-to-date software is a must! http://news.softpedia.com/news/vulnerability-in...

Re: Protect each OS in dual boot

Putting an AV on your Mint install actually makes you less secure. Here are a couple of links with good info. The bottom line is: a desktop user of Linux doesn't need an AV. https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/security http://www.howtogeek.com/135392/htg-explains-why-you-dont-need-an-...
