Windows 7 ISO Won't Boot - Made From Linux Machine

Hey guys, I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a desktop machine however I have failed spectacularly for the last 8 hours and I'm loosing my mind here. I don't have access to a Windows machine otherwise I would have solved my problem instantly, so I'm trying to create a bootable ISO using...

Re: Is This the End?

You might try Mint 18.1 XFCE on it. Otherwise, antiX would probably work fine on that computer. I put it on an old computer that came with Win98 on it, and it works surprisingly well. http://antix.mepis.org/index.php?title=Main_Page The issue is the non-PAE CPU. The last mainstream Linux distro tha...

Is This the End?

Ahhh.. After a glorious 11 years, my trusty bomb proof Dell laptop looks like it has met its end! When XP was discontinued, I was saddened quite a bit as I had been using it for a whopping 13 years up until that point, however I switched over to Mint 13 as it was the last OS that supported the Non-P...

Need Help Correcting Partion For New Install

Hi, I messed up whilst trying to adjust / shift partitions around when installing Mint 18. My current setup was 250gb Windows and 250gb Mint 17. I created an NTFS partition at the end of the disk to dump both Windows and Mint documents into one area, then delete both main partitions and install a cl...

Re: My Tale of Woe - Forcibly upgraded

If I understand you correctly, you simply want to copy your files that you have on Windows, and not actually fix it? If thats the case then a method that has always worked for me is the following: 1) Burn a bootable copy of Mint onto a USB. 2) Boot from USB into Live Mode. 3) Once at the desktop sel...

Upgraded Win7 to 8.1 on Dual Boot - Now Mint Not Recognized

Hi, I have a AIO PC where I partitioned the HDD and left the original Windows 7 on the first and installed Mint 17.2 on the second. For the last 6 months I've been using Mint however latly I wanted to play some games so thought it would be a good time to get rid of 7 and install 8.1 in its place (lo...

Re: New USB 3.0 - No Bootable Devices (LiveCD)

Just to add, I just tried a couple of other Linux distros and the same thing happened. The new stick simply does not recognize any boot devices. I tried every single one on my old stick and they all worked flawlessly. An interesting note however, I had my old Windows 8.1 ISO saved and I tried that a...

New USB 3.0 - No Bootable Devices (LiveCD)

Hi, I've been running XFCE 13 LTS for ages off my old 2GB USB stick without any problems. I use it occasionally to override my work computers () however one thing I did realize is, the thing was awfully slow at booting to the desktop so I thought I'd get a new USB 3.0 stick that boost load/oper...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

Just an update, I redownloaded the ISO in Windows again, this time using PenDriveLinux and it worked like a charm! It had some troubles "seeing" the ISO in the selection menu for some strange reason though, I had to go through the list of OS's untill it appeared. Anyways, just to let you know, every...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

The iso file works for sure because I've tested it both as live and installing on HD. Are you sure the md5sum is right? In the private message I see you added the extra info that you're making a live USB stick, so I guess the problem could be there. There is an article with info about it here http:...

Re: Error Mounting USB - Exit Code 18

Thanks for the reply. When I select Data Recovery it pops up with the error "Command gpart was not found - This feature uses gpart. Please install gpart and try again." Also (even though its not mounted) when I select "Eject" on the USB stick it gives the message "failed to eject USB - Daemon is inh...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

Hi Rik,

I just managed to make an ISO of the download. The problem is (XFCE 32-Bit) when trying to boot past BIOS it gives me the message "No Boot Found" (something along those lines) and then skips to the main OS.

Any clues?

Re: Error Mounting USB - Exit Code 18

you keep getting RAID error mentions. Was this on a computer with a RAID setup? I know you got this from a good vendor, but can't help wondering if it's defective hardware for some reason. Maybe a FAKE like many on Ebay, or maybe something corrupted the MFT at the front, but then the copy at the ba...

Re: Error Mounting USB - Exit Code 18

How do I do this? In GParted once I right click it shows Check And Repair File System. Should I use this option? I don't want it to delete anything though. That's your only hope left now. Give it a try. I get the following message: GParted 0.11.0 --enable-libparted-dmraid Libparted 2.3 Check and re...

Re: Error Mounting USB - Exit Code 18

Just wanted to update this. I went onto a windows laptop, went into command, typed the command above (chkdsk /f) and it runs through some codes then the promter closes after a minute. What exactly was that supposed to do? When I go into my computer and try to click on the H drive it says "Drive is n...

Re: Mint 13 LTS iso update and ubuntu 12.04.2

Rik_rs is the MAN! I asked him to repsin XFCE for me and he did the whole lot over the weekend. What a legend :D One question to ask is, I have a Non-PAE CPU, and I'm pretty sure I can't upgrade past 12.04 kernel (which is why I still use the LTS version) would the updated kernel still work with my...

Re: Error Mounting USB - Exit Code 18

Could you paste back sudo blkid OK very weird, its now showing up in blkid as /sdc1. (I changed the ID of the USB to xxxxx below, so ignore that part.) mint@mint ~ $ sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o ro,uid=xxxxxxxxxxxxxx /dev/sdc1 /mnt $MFTMirr does not match $MFT (record 0). Failed to mount '/dev/sdc1': I...
