Re: Network Manager does not randomize WLAN MAC when scanning
I think the wpasupplicant version to make it work changed https://blogs.gnome.org/thaller/2016/08/26/mac-address-spoofing-in-networkmanager-1-4-0/ Many thanks Jeremy!! You have cured the itch in my head of not knowing what was causing this! :D (Also completely missed that as I did read that article...

Just an update. Version 1.2.6 is out. And this is still not working.
Any ideas at all, would be really helpful.

Re: Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon slow on battery power
I thought I should add something I've noticed. From time to time I see weird flashes on the screen, after switching to using the Intel GPU, what could this be? Not sure about that unfortunately. You could try installing another kernel from the update manager (from what i remember intel graphics dri...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon slow on battery power
Hey krow7, apologies for late response No worries :) I would definitely try switching to Intel GPU to see if the issue occurs there as well (if that is a possibility). This is useful for 2 reasons: Since you are using TLP, its quite possible that it is throttling your Nvidia GPU to such and extent ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon slow on battery power
Hey Mechmayhem, I have never had any dealings with Nvidia+Intel. But this does seem like a Graphics issue. Did you install Nvidia graphics (GPU) drivers for your card (from Driver Manager in menu)? If not, I highly suggest you do as Nvidia open-source driver is know to be sub-par. (Dont forget to re...

[SOLVED] Network Manager does not randomize WLAN MAC when scanning
Hi everyone, Trying to find the cause, why Network Managers (NM) WLAN MAC randomization does not work in Mint. From this article by the developer of NM - https://blogs.gnome.org/lkundrak/2016/01/18/networkmanger-and-tracking-protection-in-wi-fi-networks/ it should have been available since the versi...

Re: Cannot make Firefox (Ubuntu version) default
There's no reason to put those specifically in the /etc/apt/preferences.d/official-package-repositories.pref file. Just create your own preferences file. Say create the file /etc/apt/preferences.d/firefox-ubuntu.pref and don't forget you want the priority higher than Linux Mint's import repository....

Cannot make Firefox (Ubuntu version) default
Hi! I have installed LM 17.3 recently. Before that I had 17.2. In the previous version I had Firefox package pinned in the - /etc/apt/preferences.d/official-package-repositories.pref . With this addition to the file - Package: firefox* Pin: release o=Ubuntu Pin-Priority: 700 For some reason the /etc...

Re: No sound in firefox nad sound effects but sound everywhere else
Hi techincs132! Go to System settings -> Sound and enable Alert volume. And adjust the volume to your liking. https://i.imgur.com/3UtkjkH.png Do not close this window. Open Firefox, play some video/audio. Now go back to the Sound settings window -> open Applications tab . In this tab find Firefox/Fl...

So "Alert volume + Custom sound (not default)" doesn't work? Are you sure? Works perfectly in my case.andrewgouw wrote: I have also adjusted the alert volume and still no sound.

Hi! Here is how I did it. First of all the window can be expanded/maximised to show "Browse button" to choose your own sound. See images - before and after. https://i.imgur.com/q9uqR6i.png https://i.imgur.com/rd9lU6S.png Choose your own sound - because the default does not work for some re...

Re: vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not running
If I delete them, then Mint in the VM will not work properky, right? What can I then do? You need them on your guest environment but not host. On your host system you can purge these files with this - sudo apt-get --purge autoremove virtualbox-guest-* Then reboot. On your guest system you have 2 op...

Re: vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not running
@WharfRat: sorry, I do not understand the sentence " Those apps are meant to be run inside a virtual machine so they are not needed if you're running natively ". Do you mean the files are relevant when you run VirtualBox inside another virtual machine, e.g. VirtualBox inside VirtualBox? T...

Re: vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not running
sudo apt-get --purge autoremove virtualbox-guest-* It should remove the 3 packages responsible for this problem. Don't forget to reboot. yes, this worked for me - as mentioned above, it removed more than just 3 packages, but is now fixed. Glad it worked for you! From what I gather, you might have h...

Re: vboxclient the virtualbox kernel service is not running
I had this problem with LM 17.2 with xfce. The standard mint updates upgraded part of VirtualBox to version 5 and I started to get the message about the "vboxclient kernel not running". I noticed that there will some bits of VirtualBox still on version 4.3. My Windows XP VM wouldn't run a...
