msfonts (SOLVED)

Hi guys. Trying to install mscorefonts on Linux 19 Cinnamon. This thread https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=215593&p=1546588&hilit=fonts#p1546588 (and lots of other "How-to's") say I should see a licence agreement when I install mscorefonts from the Package Manager or from a script su...

Re: xrandr does not list HDMI port

nebulaUnicornis I feel your pain. My HDMI port also no longer works, and I get all the same outputs as you do. I have not been paying much attention to it since I don't use the HDMI port very often, but I think updating to guard against whatever that virus thingy was has broken it. Alas, I do not ha...

Re: How to Prevent Videos from Autoplaying in Chrome

Hi guys.

I got all excited and tried that on my newsfeed, but it stops the video from loading, even when it is deactivated, so I took it off again.
My newsfeed now works normally. Shame, though.

Re: chrome vs chromium

The latest update is "ffmpeg codecs" for chromium-browser. I don't run chromium-browser. I have uninstalled chromium-browser. Why would I need updates for it? I run Google Chrome, which surely should come with it's own updates? Or can Update Manager not be relied upon to provide these?

[SOLVED] chrome vs chromium

Hi guys. I'm running Google Chrome as my default browser (in Cinnamon). Can I ignore updates for Chromium? I've uninstalled Chromium so what purpose could updates for it serve? Surely any updates I need will come with Chrome updates? I thought Update Manager would see that I don't have Chromium and ...

Re: How to use the latest version of Firefox?

Click on the Update shield to open Update Manager. Click on "Edit". At the bottom of the Drop-down Menu will be an option to "Update to Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia". That will get your entire system up to date.

NAS (SOLVED)

Hi guys. How do I access the family NAS with Cinnamon 17.2? My brother sent me this snippet of information, (he is Ewart, I am Graeme); The NAS is a bit funny. Download DS File - that might be tricky on a linux computer, but ok for an iPad or Windows PC. Here are some things you can try: QuickConnec...

Re: how to connect to a tv with a hdmi

I get all manner of weird goings-on with LM18 Cinnamon unless I do everything in a specific order. With your TV switched on and the HDMI cable plugged in, boot up. Open the Menu, select System Settings, Display. You should see two screens, your laptop and the TV. Drag the TV to the left, and click "...

Re: Screensaver

Linux Mint 18, Cinnamon, does not have a Screensaver like Window$ XP had. Like the man said they stopped being useful a long time ago, but if you really want a slideshow after x time, here's how. To make a working Screensaver slideshow in Cinnamon open Software Manager and enter "xscreensaver" in th...

Re: Zoomed Desktop

Cosmo.

Thank you. Icon View Defaults was set to 400%! At 100% everything is normal.

I have no idea how I changed that parameter, but no matter, it's fixed now.

Zoomed Desktop {Solved}

Help!

I accidentally zoomed my desktop, so my icons are all huge and don't fit on the screen any more.

What to do? All other screens, like this Firefox/LMForums page, are normal sized. I'm running Cinnamon 18 on a HP laptop.

Quite by chance I stumbled on the answer to the second question; right-click on an empty space on the desktop, click "Keep Aligned".

Scrambled desktop

Hi guys. Watching a video scrambled my Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon desktop! It's O.K. I can put it back together, no problem, but I'm astonished that loading a commercial video to watch on TV via HDMI resulted in my desktop icons being tossed randomly all across the screen. All I did was boot up with the...

Right click the Menu icon in the panel and click "Configure". You can do all sorts of interesting things.

Also, check out the advice this guy was given;viewtopic.php?f=90&t=231861
