Re: lenovo i5 desktop Problems with mouse
On most Lenovo Desktop machines there is one particular USB port that is specifically meant for using a Wireless Mouse and Keyboard combination. You can see if you have one because if you look at the rear ports, one has a weird little symbol. If you use your imagination - you will work out that symb...

Re: How to use Workspaces
Spamegg's Multi-Panel approach is one way to sort out the panel thing. If you ever see my screen shots you will see a Top Panel, one for Left and Right, and a Cairo-Dock at the bottom, because the one thing my Mint 21.3 KDE mashup cannot do is Activities. It can create them, but without being aware ...

Re: Large External Hdd's
Without knowing 'anything' about your system, a couple fo obvious things come to mind. 1) Because a very large HDD uses a lot of power, it might draw more current that the laptop (or most desktop) computers can pass out of their USB ports. 2) Because a very large SSD uses a lot of power, it might dr...

Re: How to use Workspaces
The problem is following, I'd like to use workspaces but with each workspace launching different applications. Plank (or how Mint's dock is called - with your apps at the bottom screen) can't be customized to show different applications for each workspace - I haven't seen a way to have different ap...

Re: Can full-disk "Normal" installs no longer become dual-boot?
I should know this because I have been installing Linux distros over and over on several devices for the last two months - but a number of them have completely changed their install programs, and the options are different. However One of the distros I installed was Mint Cinnamon 6 because I was cons...

Re: Surface pro 5 not booting from USB
I've been running two Surface Pro 3 Tablets (one 4/64GB with Win 10 - the other 8/256GB with Win 11 Pro) for some months now (I've posted about it in this forum). I'm fairly sure on both the Surface 3 tablets, this was the guide (It was stolen from a web post somewhere at the time: Change boot-order...

Re: All Windows Managers Flawed - Solutions to any combination are welcome!
I remember when Linux Mint brought out their KDE (DE) distro's, a few years back, they were great, so what happened to that politically I dunno. -maybe Kubuntu just needed Mint's help for awhile...? I seem to remember the very first Mint I had was running KDE. I can;t remember, but I think the othe...

Re: All Windows Managers Flawed - Solutions to any combination are welcome!
Hear Hear. 8) Thanks for this post @rossdv8. Same here regarding compiz. The benefits of compiz outweigh the few niggles. I use compiz specifically for window placement and rules features. Not into special effects. As far as bugs--yes there are a few in Mint. The Update manager icon thing is not a ...

Re: All Windows Managers Flawed - Solutions to any combination are welcome!
Compiz is a bug fest. There is no desktop environment that uses it as a default window manager, which should tell you something. I wouldn't touch it. Now that is just plain 'wrong'! Compiz, is far fro being 'a bug fest'. Only someone who doesn;t really understand Linux would say that. If you leave ...

Re: [WORK-AROUND] Why Won't Appimage Launch From Desktop Link? (Mint 21.2 Cinnamon)
You have got part of the easiest solution worked out. I ws trying to find a solution to the 'Links to Appimages' thing adn specifically Cura, because I run a lot of 3D printing 'stuff' (like modified Linux File Managers that show previews of .stl files. However, I have 'some' of my favourite Appimag...

Re: Mint 21 on MS Surface Pro 3 4/64GB version
Autorotate worked on Mint 21.2 Cinnamon but I've been messing with trying to get 21.2 Cinnamon working preperly on a couple of Desktops all week, so I haven't burned it to a Live Persistent USB stick yet to run it on a Surface. I can;t see any reason the Mint team would have killed Autorotate though...

I can just picture about 80% of forum members reading this and simply nodding their heads thinking it is close enough to the truth about us that it is more scary than funny - and 20% wondering what it all means . . I had attacks of the chuckles when I remembered the bits that sound like me . .

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2024
That looks magnificently horrendous, and I mean that in the nicest way. :D Some of the things I do to Mint are simply to see 'what' can be done. I like translucency, and I know one person on the forum wrote a script for Cinnamon some time ago that can set all the Apps to open with a set level of co...

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2024
While I was playing with Mint 21.3/Cinnamon 6 I did awful things to it. I know I shouldn't - and it looks Bloody Awful But I couldn't help myself. Mint 21.3 Cinnamon 6 with Firefox, and Dolphin mostly Translucent, the Panel Transparent, the Panel Menu isn;t showing because I have the Firefox Menu op...

Re: Looking for a video wallpaper solution on Mint 21.2 Cinnamon
Last time I used Variety it could not do Video Wallpaper - it was only able to change still images according to a timed interval. Did they change it so it also plays Video? Sorry, I hadn't realised you insisted on them being video wallpapers. The program hasn't been modified and only rotates static...

Last time I used Variety it could not do Video Wallpaper - it was only able to change still images according to a timed interval. Did they change it so it also plays Video? In the meantime I just dropped out of Mint KDE and booted into Mint Cinnamon 6 Beta. I can open a couple of Zenity GUIs I made ...

Yup, and in your defence, I've made the same mistake so many times I can't even make a joke at your expense :-) On the other hand though, people always seem to think the 'Command Line' is some sort of dark magic. But once you get used to reading carefully before pressing Enter - it is so easy to do ...

Re: The Future direction of Linux
I've been exploring KDE 6 (Plasma 6) for a few weeks, and Mint Cinnamon 6 for a few days, and the beta releases of both show a lot of promise. I haven't tried Wayland with Cinnamon 6 yet, but I have been switching between x11 and Wayland frequently in KDE 6 to see what if any problems I could experi...
