Re: Entire system freeze.

Okay, verifying the iso is a great move. Well done there! How about when you boot the DVD, running the last item "check the integrity of the medium"? (to ensure the burning went appropriately). Did you have a separate /home that you share between your 17.3 and 19.1 installs? I actually create a sepa...

Re: Entire system freeze.

So my next question is: did you create a new partition for 19.1 as you can still boot into 17.3?

I would further ask: did you verify the iso?

Re: Entire system freeze.

I would also query if you performed a reformat (erase drive) and reinstall or used the existing /home. If you used the existing /home it includes settings for mate as well as your data. Installing cinnamon using an existing /home with settings for mate can cause corruption to your settings and give ...

Re: Dual boot Mint\Mate and Win7 question

It actually can use 4GB of RAM, but depending on the OS it might only have 3.5GB available due to overhead (I/O, hardware used). More is accessible under certain circumstances such as a RAMdrive etc. with PAE.

Re: Triple booting Linux. How to do it? Pros and cons? Do's and don'ts

Here is a tutorial on using a separate /mnt/Data partition with symlinks. https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1609 I use this regularly with multiple boot distros. I have used Fedora, Chakra, Chapeau, Maui, Solus, Peppermint, OpenSUSE, KDEneon, various Ubuntus & many Mints with a single sh...

Re: HOW TO change graphics drivers on installed LM19 from within a live usb?

carom carvi Speaking of speedy USB 3.0 installs, I finally purchased Sandisk Ultra 3.0 thumb drives, and the time to use Image Writer in Linux Mint to create the image decreased significantly. The installs were quite speedy as well, but the quality of the thumb drive can have a significant effect. I...

Re: Installing drivers for my printer/scanner??

What JerryF says above in the last part of his post is what I have done on two different brother MFC devices over 20 to 30 distro installs, including many Linux Mint, Fedora, Chakra, Chapeau, KDEneon, Kubuntu, and Maui with nary a failure. Comparably to how he re-wrote instructions, I took the text ...

Re: Where to go after 17.3?

wolseley2 You could do a dual boot with 2 hard drives if you prefer. I installed Windows on a HDD with the 2nd disconnected for Linux Mint. After that was complete I disconnected the Windows drive and connected the Linux Mint drive for install. After completing installs, both are reconnected, you se...

Re: Installing Mint 18.3 from USB gives no options

It is best to free up space using windows disk management tool leaving space unallocated. Then use gparted from the live boot to partition as needed, then install Mint.
Keep in mind to turn off fast restart in windows, and secure boot and fast boot in the firmware.

Re: Grub shell installed on main hard disk[Windows 10] while installed Linux Mint 19 on external Hard Disk

EFI booting is unusual. It will look for an existing efi/boot partition on each hard drive and automatically install grub to the first one it finds. It will install grub to your windows disk even if you tell it to install to the external disk which is connected and visible. I would recommend disconn...

Re: bootable USB not detected by UEFI

Glad I was of assistance.

During install you are queried to install codecs for media, you may click in the box to have them installed. This should resolve most of the codecs you may need to play media. There is also a way to install them after the install is complete, but I don't recall the methods.

Re: bootable USB not detected by UEFI

Try F12 during the boot process to see if you can enter the boot manager.

You should see 2 listings for a USB drive, one labeling it and one labeling it with UEFI, select the UEFI one to boot in UEFI.

Re: LM19 install failure UEFI

The unfortunate issues are due to bleeding edge hardware. I have been there myself. Another distro with a newer kernel on the LiveCD may help. A Facebook group I follow had someone at University having similar issues with her new Ryzen 5 2500U based system and had to go to Antergos with Deepin DE to...

Re: Icons

Not Partition Magic, I remember that program well, but there was another, I think, with Commander in the name that used icons for OS selection. I used it as well multibooting Mandrake Linux with Windows(98?) and FreeBSD. Can't seem to locate any manuals or CDs for it though.

Re: Continuing the Mint 19 Adventure

19 has too many problems on my system, one of which is the inability to install about half of the programs I use in 18.3. So I think to skip 19, keep with 18.3 and wait for Mint 20 to see what they will make of it. Hopefully a year or two would be enough for them to fix all the issues which keep po...
