Re: recognizing the scanner on Epson ET-2750

Epson supplies a driver for Linux but doesn't support Linux. You will have to go to their web site and download it than install it. I have used the software manager also with some success. You have to search for it.
The scanner is still hit or miss and I am trying to figure it out.

recognizing the scanner on Epson ET-2750

It took some effort but my Epson ET-2750 printer now works on Mint 19.3. Getting the driver was the first hurdle but then the scanner seemed to be hit or miss. The error message claimed that the scanner was not detected. I used both Simple Scan and Xscan. Thanks to the comments made on a few of the ...

Re: Complete system freeze

I don't have a solution to your core problem, but I wanted to advise that you'll eventually corrupt your file system by powering it off that way. As an alternate option, hold down Alt + SysRq , and type r e i s u o , waiting a second or two between keystrokes. This will (usually) shutdown your comp...

Re: Complete system freeze

Is it me or was Mint 17 a better release? I've had that system freeze a lot and now I get a request for a software program wanting my Admin password for a change to the system and a download. Sure acts like the malware I used to get on Windows 7 years ago. I've tried to use the task manager to see w...

Epson ET-2750 printer

I am having an issue with my Epson ET-2750 printer/scanner. I am using Mint 18.3 64 bit Cinnamon on an Intel NUC7iBNH. Of course Epson doesn't support Linux but the drivers from the software depositories seemed to work OK. I couldn’t use WINE to load the Epson drivers either. The problem came from u...

Re: choppy video, delayed text

So . . . I installed Mint 18 64bit Xfce and no longer have any choppy DVD movies. Looks like my problem has been solved. Thanks. I haven't done any of the tweaking for Xfce yet. I ended up watching the whole movie over again! Getting everything set up again. I am curious about what has changed. My h...

Re: choppy video, delayed text

Well I did this as directed. "Turn off visual effects in Cinnamon 6.1. Disabling the "heavy" visual effects in Cinnamon, consists out of three steps: a. First do this: Menu button - Preferences - Effects Turn off everything there. b. Then do this: Menu button - Preferences - System Settings Section ...

Re: choppy video, delayed text

Thank you! I will have to give that a try. This laptop is having video screen issues at boot up and I have been thinking I will be forced into buying a new laptop anyway. It looks like the days of cheap laptops are over for Linux since Microsoft 10 has come around. I've been checking out some of the...

Re: choppy video, delayed text

Thanks for the input. I keep going back and forth between Mate and Cinnamon and can't remember which one I was using when I played that DVD. I don't suppose there is anyway to switch without downloading another ISO live DVDand doing a new install?

Re: choppy video, delayed text

I'm wondering since this is a forum rather than a chat session does it update in real time like a chat session would or do I need to do something to see recent posts? I've enjoyed your info in the past but can't help but wonder if you aren't about ready to go to sleep since you are half way around t...

choppy video, delayed text

I’m thinking of going back a generation or two on Linux Mint. Mint 18 doesn’t seem to handle video very well. Nor does it even handle text well. At first I thought it was just certain videos but then I loaded a HD DVD and it was very choppy through out the video. It was a DVD that I had watched on a...

FireFox is slow

I updated to Mint 18 - Cinnamon hoping the issues I was starting to have with FireFox would go away but they didn't even with a fresh install from a live CD. I've got 4meg of ram and an SSdrive. My wife needed a new laptop so I dreaded having to set up Win 10 on it and was surprised that it went as ...

Re: Inability to establish WiFi connection

Sounds like the problem I had at hotels. I was connected to the wifi but couldn't get a login screen to enter the required password. The previous versions of Mint were simple and straightforward enough that I didn't really pay attention to how it was done. The hotels login screen would pop up and I ...

wifi login screen doesn't show up

I had the misfortune of being in a lot of different hotels this week with my newly installed mint 18 and had a lot of trouble logging into the hotels wifi. I was connected to the wifi but couldn't get to the login screen to enter the password. The funny thing was I could do it in one hotel as normal...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

I choose to install Linux Mint when Windows 8 came out and I had the duty to try to teach my wife how to use that horrible system on her new laptop. My laptop had Window 7 on it back then (2 years ago) and the switch to Linux Mint was pretty easy. I spent too much time on my wife’s desktop with XP o...
