Re: Cinnamon doesn't always start.

Is this a new installation - or a new problem on an old installation? New installation. I think I have figured out the source of the problem. So far it seems that if my wireless headset has the usb dongle connected to the PC but the headset is not on, then Cinnamon will not start. But if the headse...

Cinnamon doesn't always start.

I have a problem with cinnamon where it randomly crashes after loging and after 5 minutes it tells me it is running in fallback mode. The only thing I can see if the cursor in front of a black background and the GUI never appears. I have not been able to find a cause for this. Anyone knows if this i...

Re: Installation is not setting up apt sources then crashes

Nevermind. Ubuntu mate gave me the exact same problem. I think there is something wrong with the flash drive or the way that unetbootin is making the flash drive.

Installation is not setting up apt sources then crashes

I have tried to install Linux Mint a couple of times today and it won't install. It boots up nicely, then when it is about to complete installation it says it cannot setup apt- sources to install programs from the cd (In this case flash drive) and says the installer has crashed. I checked the image ...

How to setup the Xbox One controller on Linux Mint

Hi! I just bought one of the new xbox one controllers because I heard that they have bluetooth and the Linux kernel supports it natively. I am having trouble connecting it through my USB bluetooth dongle. It is a bluetooth 4.0 dongle and I have been able to connect the Wii U Pro controller on mint j...

Re: How to create new menu entries manually

Thanks a whole lot. Just one more question. Anyone knows if Android sdk installs itself into a specific directory or you have to place it there? Where should it end up installed? I'm thinking of just making a folder for each in my home if necessary.

How to create new menu entries manually

I want to use the Eclipse Neon IDE and the Android SDK and neither of them create menu entries in the Programming group. So I have to do it manually and I don't know how to do it. I have found howto's for Unity but nothing for Cinnamon so far. If you could help me out, I'd be very grateful. I am usi...

How to install Eclipse Neon

I am checking tutorials on how to install the latest version of Eclipse but they are for Ubuntu. I found these two: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/06/install-latest-eclipse-ubuntu-14-04/ http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2016/01/how-to-install-the-latest-eclipse-in-ubuntu-16-04-15-10/ It...

Re: Solve boot problems with AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards

You should have started a new thread rather than adding to this very old discussion. If you can boot your installed Mint by adding noveau.modeset=0 during boot. (Press "e", for Edit when you see the Grub menu), then you can make that permanent by adding it to the text file /etc/default/grub Open /e...

Re: Solve boot problems with AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards

Linux Mint 17.3 does not currently recognize my gpu. I have a GTX 970 and a an amd 8370 for cpu. I manage to get the installer to display by adding the noveau.modeset=0 line by pressing tab during the install options but after I do the proper install the setting is not saved and I end up with an os ...

Xbox One or PS4 controller for linux mine?

I'm currently using a wired xbox 360 controller for gaming and it is good. But I keep hearing how the PS4 controller and Xbox one controller are much better as far as feel goes. So I wanted to know how easy they are to setup on Linux Mint 17.2 (assuming they both work) and how well steam games work ...

Re: External DVD burner

The thing is sr0 never says anything about LG or DVD. How should I be able to tell it apart if it becomes sr1 or something else? The first optical drive detected by the system after booting is /dev/sr0 . The second one detected is /dev/sr1 . The third one detected is /dev/sr2 . Etc. Thanks for the ...

Re: External DVD burner

Hi Sykal, I have an external LG GP08LU30 USB DVD (Lightscribe) drive which works fairly well in addition to an Asus internal DVD drive which also works well (would be nice if they were also "blu-ray"). With this device connected, can you please run from terminal "lsusb" and post the results back he...

Re: External DVD burner

HI Sykal, It would help to have more specific information on your system setup, see FYI below. What is the make and model of the USB DVD burner drive? As was already mentioned, put a disc in the drive. I highly recommend that you do not use passive USB hubs (like 4-port or more that do not have the...

Re: No SATA 3 on P6X58D Premium

The drives are visible in the BIOS? How are the drives set in BIOS? AHCI? They were set to IDE. I now set them to AHCI but linux still does not see them. When I entered the AHCI settings it said "Not Detected" on all drives. I don't know what that means as I'm posting this from the very same machine.

No SATA 3 on P6X58D Premium

I have a P6X58D Premium motherboard that's got two SATA 3 ports that -so far- no distribution has been able to detect. This motherboard is from 2009 so I suppose they did something different since it was one of the first to bring USB 3.0 and SATA 3. I would like to know how to fix this so linux mint...
