Yes , when the LMDE project was first introduced , the developers explained that this Debian fork gave them more flexibility as they didn't have to wait for Ubuntu spefic releases. Unfortunately the Debian fork has had some problems with " secure boot " on the newest hardware.

Re: 'su -' in Linux Mint 13 KDE
With all Ubuntu based installations , there is normally NO Root account. However it can be created by creating a " Unix " password. This is not normally recommended but it can be done. You normally log in as a " sudo " user. This allows you to launch Terminal , and use " bas...

Re: Grub error after reinstalling LinuxMint while dualbootin
You don't say what is your partrition layout. Normall a factory install Windows 7 uses two or three Primary partitions ( the Windows operating system on a large partition which Windows calls C:drive and , then one or two hidden Primary partition for Windows restore functions. ) Your Linux partrition...

If you intend to use a grub-install already working on another OS partotopm, and don't want to install grub on this new insallation , the normal procedure is to select install the MBR to this new installation partition ( e.g. " sda7" ) . The result is equivalent to insaling to "/"...

Re: Linux Mint 13 Xfce RC released!
Having the Panel bar at the top of the screen DOES reduce the amount of movement of your cursor ( up and down ) , and saves a lot of time in a long editing job. With Gnome or KDE the first thing I do is move the Panel to the top.
I agree , this is a very useful option.

Re: Mate or Cinnamon?
With the present version of Cinnamon , there appears to be no way to minimize a running window. If you click on the "Minimize" character on the top right edge of the window, it closes and no way to "Maximize" the window , as you used to be able to do on the "Windoiw list but...

Driver for WIFI D-Link question ?
LMDE RC installs fine on my Acer Notebook,
but I cannot find a search menu for a driver for my WIFI D-Link router.
Previoiusly on LM 12 the "available drivers" menu locates my driver with no problem.

Re: Dual-Boot Problem
To set up a dual-boot with Microsoft Windows, basically you first determine what partitions Microsoft alreay has set up. Factory machines usually have a C:drive partition , plus a Hidden Windows system file back up partition, and also another Hidden partition with manufacturers tool files (almost al...

Re: Cant finish installation? Cant boot in Mint after
My experience is that Win XP only works properly on the Master drive. Also Win XP should be installed first , and allowed to check its own file system.
Then Linux can be installed either on a Slave drive or on Logical partitions of the Mastger drive.

Re: Dual boot installation issue.
When multi-booting with MS Windows and one or more Linux , I recommend that MS Windows be left using Primary partitions, --- and ALL Linux systems be installed on Logical partitions. This way your Linux can use at least three Logical partritions ( Root , Swap , and /Home ) without running out of Num...

When you start up LM 12 at the User log-in window at the left side of the screen, there is a Radial Button with which you can select four dfesktop modes. Gnome 3 default shows icons for launchers. Gnome 3 classic shows a launcher menu in a column of text. Gnome 3 apparently is designed not to use ap...

Normally when you crteate a partition in Linux the "label" is left blank. Using GPartEd you can name (of your own choice) a label to a partition. With Linux Mint's default Nautilus , the left side panel will show a label that you have created. Some time you might tray " Krusader "...
