SOLVED - putting a copy of a desktop icon in the 1-click tray at bottom of monitor screen
desktop computer, LM19.1, Tessa, 4.15.0-20 generic x86_64 To save a mouseclick when opening a program, such as email or browser, I have several icons not only on my desktop, where I have to doubleclick them to open them, but also down in the tray at the bottom of the screen, where just a single clic...

Re: [Solved] would appreciate suggestions for emailing large files
After testing, I have found that for my use, WeTransfer [1] is easy to register for, [2] is cleanly and smartly designed, [3] works without fuss, and [4] is an efficient and straightforward way to transmit large files by email.
Again, thanks to all.

Re: would appreciate suggestions for emailing large files
Thanks for the privacy caution axrusar. Not a concern here - if I had something private, I would never consider a public cloud server.

Re: would appreciate suggestions for emailing large files
Sollid, excellent advice from all - thanks. WeTransfer appears to be simple and good and I am exploring it now. Just signed up and sent out my first large AVI file. Will let you know if all goes well and if so I will mark this thread Solved.

[Solved] would appreciate suggestions for emailing large files
Desktop computer running LM19.1, Tessa, 4.15.0-20 generic xB6_64 My routine emailing is with Mozilla Thunderbird. Very occasionally, I have a large file (e.g., a 194MB movie on my camera's memory card) that I would like to email to a friend. Thunderbird has a filesize limit that will not let this be...

q. re: emailing .AVI files using Thunderbird
desktop, LM 19.1, Tessa, 4.15.0-20 generic x86_64 I occasionally want to email a message with an attached video file, in .AVI, using Thunderbird. Even what I think of as a brief (10-20 sec) vid seems to be large for the server. If I have a vid of 25Mb, it will barely transmit. Bigger than that, no. ...

Re: another Libre Office crash
Removing and reinstalling the LibreOffice package alters only the software, not the data files. Open the Synaptic Package Manager. Search for libreo. Right click the libreoffice package. You get the following options. Mark for Reinstallation Mark for Removal Marl for Complete Removal. Mark for Rein...

Re: another Libre Office crash
The first command (the one that was fixed) does eliminate LO; the second command will reinstall it. Sometimes this is the only way to fix borked programs. Thanks for the responses - much appreciated. I gather that executing the first command, by which I take it you mean sudo spt remove --purge libr...

Re: another Libre Office crash
There is a typo. DONT DO THE FOLLOWING, although it probably won't do much if you do. Code: Select all sudo spt remove --purge libreo* Should be Code: Select all sudo apt remove --purge libreo * This command looks like it will eliminate Libre Office. I don't want to do this, although LO is useless ...

Re: another Libre Office crash
What version of LO are you using?
Don't know. I would ordinarily start looking for that info by opening LO, but the act of opening LO locks up my entire system. Can you suggest a terminal command for getting an anwer to your question?

Re: another Libre Office crash
Any reason why you're still on the original version of the 4.15 kernel branch? There has been 30+ updates to it already. No, no reason. At the moment, my Updates shows 1 update, which asks if I want to switch to a local mirror and provides some information on an upgrade to v. 1.1.5. I have done not...

Re: Q. re safe install of plugins for MediaPlayer
Thanks jglen490. OK, I installed the 2 plugins from the "bad" set, I thought successfully. DVD still would not play, and the message onscreen said I needed to install the following 2 additional plugins, from the "ugly" set, to support the multimedia feature "DVD source"...

Re: Repeated loss of internet connection in Mint 19.1
Interesting - I thought I was having an only-me issue. I also run 19.1. The frequent and most annoying connection interrupts began 3 or 4 weeks ago, went on for maybe 2 weeks despite everything I could think of to remedy matters, and then disappeared. I am now getting none, and can only hope that wh...

[SOLVED] How disable requirement for PW entry, LM19.1
LM 19.1, cinnamon, firefox on a desktop. I recently installed 19.1 and it is working fine. However, would like to enquire about one minor annoyance. When firing up 19.1 from Off, I do not have to manually enter my password, which is fine with me. But if I stop working for a while (15 min or so?) to ...
