Re: Need help setting up Geany for Python (or sublime text)

I think I solved it! I was looking on the web for solutions, someone posted change the terminal to gnome. I got my usual nice gray terminal but no output. So I fooled around some more and changed Edit > Pref > Tools > gnome-terminal -x /bin/sh %c
No quotes, and it works!

Re: Need help setting up Geany for Python (or sublime text)

I'm making some progress. You were right, I did not see the dot in front of config. After doing that I got: rm -rfv ~/.config/geany removed directory '/home/matt/.config/geany/tags' removed '/home/matt/.config/geany/templates/templates.README' removed directory '/home/matt/.config/geany/templates/fi...

Re: Need help setting up Geany for Python (or sublime text)

I did do the force remove config file. Doesn't the v stand for tell me what's it doing? I got nothing. When I do a ls -al ~/config/geany I get no such file. Even after loading a .py file. I do have a geany.conf in that folder. See below. My built commands are python3 -m py_compile "%f" and python3 "...

Re: Need help setting up Geany for Python (or sublime text)

I thought it was because I forget the shebang. That didn't help. I did as you said, I even uninstalled Geany, then used software manager to install Geany, but I still get nothing. I saw a video where the guy imported sys, then print(sys.version), and got some feedback. I still get nothing after clic...

[Solved] Need help setting up Geany for Python (or sublime text)

*** For me the solution that worked is in my last post. But please read all the posts.*** I'm trying to learn very basic python. print("Hello World!") I can do this in Idle, but I can't seem to get it to work in Geany. I'm lost. In geany I changed the build commands: python3 -m py_compile "%f" and p...

Re: Looking for a PDF Editor

Thanks for the suggestion. But it turns out for the font to stick I have to use insert text. Well that works well enough for me. Now I hope they update the other stuff. I really miss scrolling through a document. That seems so basic.

Looking for a PDF Editor

I've been using Linux for 3 months! But I can not find a substitute for PDF-XChange. I tried WINE, I don't want it. PDFXC would crash. I think I have tried about a half dozen PDF editors. I am using Master PDF, the best one I found so far, but I don't like it. Unless I'm missing something. I'm using...

Re: cli/sed or program to add a space/underscore

The script works, I tried it on some files I created with numbers, upper lower cases, and punctuation marks. just not on these files. I don't know why, but I've given up on it. After moving 2/3 of the files to different folder because they had a number or special character in the file name, and then...

Re: cli/sed or program to add a space/underscore

ls | sed -nr "/^.*[[:lower:]][[:upper:]].*$/ b k; q; :k { h; s/([[:lower:]])([[:upper:]])/\1 \2/g; x; G; s/(.*)\n(.*)/mv -nv '\1' '\2'/mp }" didn't work. :( I then tried ls -r | sed rest of stuff, then > to my desktop.txt it listed 7 files, all with Russian letters, but it did insert spaces in them!...

[Solved] cli/sed or program to add a space/underscore

Hi, let's say, for sake of argument, I was renaming some files, I clicked on rename, and all the spaces were deleted. haha, ouch. But some of these 3,000 files had each word in the file name capitalized. How would I go about putting a space or underscore in front of these files? I don't care if the ...

Re: Encryption and Decryption software

So, can I use any kind of decrypting software on any platform to decrypt a hard drive?
I'm afraid if I use product X, that in a few years if X is not around, how would I decrypt my drive? I'm only concerned about data drives, not a system drive.

Thanks

Encryption and Decryption software

Is there any linux software that will encrypt a data drive (external HD) in place? If so, about how much free space should there be? If I used Truecrypt (yes I know some people feel it's not safe, but my data isn't that important) to encrypt a HD on win7, can any decrypting software decrypt it? What...

That worked! That worked!! But I"m still ornery because I can't figure it out. matt@matt-desktop ~/Desktop/wrongwords $ ls te*|while read l;do mv -v "$l" "$(sed 's/teh/the/' <<<$l)";done ‘teh1’ -> ‘the1’ ‘teh2’ -> ‘the2’ ‘teh3.jpg’ -> ‘the3.jpg’ ‘teh4.mov’ -> ‘the4.mov’ ‘teh5.jpg’ -> ‘the5.jpg’ ‘teh...

(Solved) CLI. Search and replace text in a file's name

I'm trying to search and replace a word in many files. Eventually recursively. Why does this seem so difficult? But for now here is my situation. I'm trying examples after googling this for an hour. matt@matt-desktop ~/Desktop/wrongword $ ls teh1 teh2 teh3.jpg teh4.mov teh5.jpg teh.avi ### I want to...

Re: Moved hard drive, now unable to mount

Since your BIOS is booting Linux from a USB drive, you should be able to boot Windows 7 by shutting down Linux, unplugging the USB drive and rebooting. Yes, I can do that. The results of 'fdisk -l' should show all the hard drives but you must run the command as the root user, e.g. ' sudo fdisk -l '...

Moved hard drive, now unable to mount

I had Linux Mint 17 installed in an older desktop PC. Two desktop PCs is one to many. So over the weekend I took out the HD from the old PC and put it in an external HD case. I then attached it via USB2.0 to my new PC. In my BIOS I have the Mint HD as 2nd Boot(after CD/DVD drive). When it starts up ...

Re: File transfer freeze?

I absolutely hate nemo. I can't figure out how to install another file manager except Midnight Commander. I have no idea how to use that program. But nemo drives me up a wall. It can take hours to move files from one folder to another. For the last 15 minutes nemo has been "preparing to move" 266 fi...

Re: grep \[ not working

I now see my mistake thanks to you. When I was using the quotes I was doing \'['. But I guess it's '\['. I didn't know the quotes go on the outside of the escape key. And now it works. But I stll don't understand why I don't need quotes for the right bracket, but that's life.

Thanks
