LM8 with Grub 2 on Inspirion

Hey, I just had a question about installing LM8 on a Dell Inspirion 1545. I think the hardware is fine but I wasn't sure if the bootloader would be a problem to restore. The thing is, i am afraid the boot partition is a custom Dell setup and since the laptop did not come with any external CDs. It ma...

Re: Help! - Hosed my fstab file

You should be able to find examples online. Here is an example to base yours on from LM8: # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier # for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name # devices that ...

Re: How to make Microsoft LifeCam work in Mint

This link has a large list of devices and drivers. At the bottom at the page it tells you how to install the drivers if you don't already have them. If you want more help, please post a specific model number to look up.

Re: LM9: Share my folder

It sounds like your drives aren't mounted in the first place. You should learn to edit your fstab in /etc so you can mount your disks on startup if you don't know how already. If you post your "fstab -l" it may help fix the problem also.

Re: Hardware Conflict?

Your problem is so unique to that configuration, its difficult to say. The best ways to test, would probably be based around trying to boot off a CD or into another OS. If you generate a report on your system from one of the common terminal or menu programs, it may be easier to tell the exact nature...

Re: How many users can connect!

Assuming you are allowing them to login through SSH, you have to edit a certain config file. You should worry more about system resources than login limits for the most part. Assuming you're using OpenSSH, you can limit unauthenticated connections with the MaxStartups directive in sshd_config. If yo...

First, please learn to write English properly. Second, try the recovery mode in the grub menu selection and go through some of the options there.

Re: newbie questions conc. fluxbox 8

The best way would to have the image on a CD, boot into the OS and copy the file to the harddrive or to a USB stick. Then paste it back into version 8 after rebooting.
I don't think you can create any graphical shortcuts, only keyboard shortcuts http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php/Keyboard_shortcuts

Re: Unable to log into GUI

Did you try the restore option in the grub menu on boot? Yes I did. Twice. Each time I got an error message that is so garbled that it is unintelligible. Also, this is with either kernel. I have both kernels loaded and I can get neither of them to load Gnome, but I can get into xterm or Window Make...

Re: Kindle and Nook [Solved]

Glad to hear it. I should warn you, though. My Sony Reader 505 runs Linux, but it is much more unstable when I've used Calibre. Your mileage may vary. Overall, I prefer to not use it and simply copy contents to the reader myself. Check out mobileread.com, which has a forum on ebook readers. They lo...
