Re: Update manager not finding any updates last 2 weeks

I'm rather enjoying the annual holiday "lack of updates", as I do every year since I started running Mint 13.

Re: WiFi not working in Linux mint 18.3 Dell E6510

I can confirm that your wifi card, Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250, works perfectly in mint 18.3, as I have that card in a Thinkpad. Barring a real hardware issue, my only thought is: did you check your wifi switch? Most of the e6xxx latitudes have an actual hardware switch to turn of the wif...

Re: Linux Mint 19.3 'Tricia' What are your First Impressions?

With all there is to like about the new release (19.3 xfce), I almost feel guilty about mentioning that usb 3 transfer speeds are down a good 30-40% as compared to Mint 18.3 xfce. Same laptop (latitude e6530, i7, 8gb ram), same devices (various HDDs, SSDs, even tested with the same files--this is ve...

Re: How to run Irfanview executable slideshows with Linux?

I used to run irfanview under wine, and it ran fine. I have now completely weaned myself off of windows programs, and run only native linux stuff. I would suggest the excellent XnViewMP as an alternative to irfanview. As far as your .exe slideshows are concerned, they should run fine under wine--jus...

I clear history, but not site preferences and site zoom is always remembered in firefox. Has been this way for seems like years.

Re: 19.2 Firefox wrong version

I have run across the same problem as the op, only when trying to use my firefox profile (contents) on a different distro (mx19) same version of firefox (70.0.1). Finally gave up and just restored bookmarks, copied saved logins, and did the rest manually. I have had no problem copying my whole .mozi...

Re: can you REALLY run a LTS Mint from day 1 to EOL (end of life) without reinstalling?

I ran Mint 17 without ever upgrading to 17.x from eol of mint 16 (non-lts) until slightly beyond eol of 17, when I decided 18.3 wasn't so bad. Still occasionally miss the rock-solid totally stable, everything works Mint 17 XFCE. Not only did I never re-install, but I cloned that install, and with a ...

Re: Format ext4 for CZ image backup?

I've been using Clonezilla since early on in Mint 13, and I've always used NTFS fomatted partitions to store/restore my images with 100% success. Yes, I do check image.

Re: Is best suited release for Thinkpad x61 19.2 xfce, or earlier?

FWIW, I've found mint 19.2 XFCE runs as well or better than 18.3 on my old core2 duo t9600 thinkpad. Any older than Mint 18.x is out of support anyway.

Re: Has anyone played around with MX Linux?

Just recently tried the final MX19, and I must say it's very good. All the big things worked "out of the box" but I found several little things that didn't work at all. Just as one example, creating a desktop shortcut with a custom icon to launch an appimage program. It would accept my input, and th...

Re: Timeshift and Flatpaks: more trouble than they're worth?

FYI for anyone wanting to create an image of individual partitions or the whole drive to an external drive and find clonezilla to be difficult you can use macrium reflect as some have suggested and you don't need windows to create it.It is easier to create a flash drive with windows though. Check o...

Re: Timeshift and Flatpaks: more trouble than they're worth?

First thing, I disabled flatpack updates, and uninstalled timeshift. I consider appimage and clonezilla as much better alternatives.

Re: [SOLVED] Clonezilla no restore option

FWIW, I use two versions of Clonezilla (for various reasons). Older version is 2.3.1.18 and "newer" version (which allows drilling down into directories) is 2.5.6.22. My favorite is the older version for its simplicity. I can confirm that images created in either, are restorable with the other. I ga...

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 Deb to Snap Transition

LibreOffice is also released as an AppImage. I have been biased towards AppImages recently because you don't need to install anything to try a new program - and then if you like it and want to keep it, you still don't need to install it :) I'm not aware of any technical disadvantages compared with ...

Re: new version 4.15.0.65.67

I basically agree with the OP and sleeper12, as far as kernel updates are concerned. When a new kernel update pops up, i generally blacklist it until I've consulted the Ubuntu security notices webpage, and give it some time to be tested by others (i.e., watch for problems on the forum). Depending on...

Re: [Solved] How to import bookmarks into Firefox without it hanging

I've never had a problem just using "backup bookmarks", and "restore bookmarks" instead of using export and import. I routinely do this between mint 18.3 (my daily driver), and 19.2, win7 and win10.
