Re: Slow Down Mouse
Hi Jeannie, I'm using a Logitech m395 (unifying receiver) on Mint 19.3 XFCE, so my solution to the wild mouse issue may not work exactly for you. What I've done is create a keyboard shortcut with the following code: "xinput --set-prop "Logitech M325" "Device Accel Constant Decele...

Re: Restart Print System
Good advice from rossdv8 on the Brother driver install tool. One thing you may want to do first before running the tool, is set a static ip address for the the printer if you are running it as a wifi connected printer/scanner. Some Brother printers allow you to set this up from the touchscreen, but ...

Re: Systemd rant
I am running a clapped out dino as well--Latitude e6530, i7 & 8gb ram. It boots mint19.3, and mint 20, in ~11 seconds and I'm happy with that. I'm not a big fan of systemd, but the same laptop running mx-18 booted in ~25 seconds. (no systemd) I think the op needs to look elsewhere for the cause ...

Re: Is Mint a younger or older crowd?
would you believe, that there is even some Ladies on this forum ?. :) Yes, there are. And as woman who's first programming class was the last semester Fortran was taught using cards at my university, I'm past the median age. I think the age of the average Mint user may well be a reflection of the a...

Re: What Don't You Like about Linux Mint?
"Suspend" has not been reliable in versions after mint 17.x . Co-incidentally 17 was the last non-systemd version. this is on several thinkpads and latitudes. Finally couldn't stand the "suspense" of not knowing if a laptop was going to wake from suspend and be functional or not....

Not sure if this will do it but acetoneiso will create an iso from cd, dvd, or folder. It's under the menu heading "image conversion"

Re: weather panel plugin
The mx-17 version .10.1 seems to have done the trick for me on mint 19.3. I would consider this solved, but many folks won't really want to risk using an mx package.

weather panel plugin
Anyone else having an issue with the xfce4 weather (panel plugin)? Mine has shown "No Data" for the past 2 or three days. This happened before on mint 17, but never on 18 or 19. I'm running 19.3 XFCE.
Thanks

Hope someone has an explanation for this, cause I've seen the same behaviour with firefox, but only on certain launchers.

Re: Making a drive-to-drive file copies work faster?
I have tested and tested and found that mint 19.3 & mint 20 & lmde4 all do usb file transfers about 40-50% slower than mint 18.3 (all xfce/thunar, except lmde4 ) What works for me is to install double-commander. With it, files transfer at the same rate or faster than they did with 18.3. Unti...

Re: What backup and recovery strategy do you use? I'm curious.
Not a fan of timeshift, therefore it's one of the first things I uninstall after a new install. I always partiton my drive with a boot part. (includes Home) an a separate data partition (I use NTFS). Most data is on the ntfs partition. I do a weekly Clonezilla backup of the boot part. to the ntfs pa...

Re: Samba Issue - File sharing between Mint 20 & Ubuntu 18.04 LTS or Mint 19.2
You have to jump thru a few hoops to get it (samba) working but it does work. I got lucky and mine is working with both mint 19.3 and windows. I cheated a little and saved the original /etc/samba.config as samba.config.backup. I then copied /etc/samba.config from my mint 19.3 install and edited the ...

Re: What are the other cons of snap, in your opinion?
No one has mentioned appimage and I have had decent experience with it. I am running Librecad as an appimage out of a folder in home. Starts really fast, and not a big footprint. The version in mint 19.3 is buggy and I need this application so I've found the appimage perfect. I've also run Freecad a...

Re: LMDE main focus?
Another vote for Mint going full Debian! I've got an install of lmde 4 that runs very well on several different laptops. The only thing is, I'm a big fan of XFCE, and would love to see lmde with xfce . If Cinnamon was the only de available though, I could get used to it and be perfectly happy

In a word: Clonezilla. Been using it this way since mint 13. When you install (dump an image) on a new machine, there is a little cleanup that must be done.

Re: How is Mint 20 Compared to Mint 19?
Just a little update: Scanner issue in previous post solved. (PEBKAC issue). Re-read Pjotr's instructions and caught my error. Everything else working well on my Thinkpad t530 after all available updates. (XFCE). I will continue updating this install, and testing on the T530, as well as older and ne...

Re: How is Mint 20 Compared to Mint 19?
Just installed and configured mint 20 xfce version. Boots and runs pretty snappy on Lenovo thinkpads sl510, t530, l430. Encountered a few bugs/instabilities but nothing showstopping. For example, printer applet refusing to close--had to log out and log back in. So far brother scanner installs but sy...
