Re: Too many updates

I have to agree with the OP. Updates for very obscure security risks are really a pain when they repeat 3 times in 2 days because of regressions. I do most updates, but I don't routinely do kernel updates. Occasionally I will do a kernel update IF I've read the ubuntu security notice, and found the ...

Re: Print bug in Evince?

The topic line of your post caught my eye because I recently switched to Evince as my default pdf reader because of print problems with Xreader. Printing from Evince has been 100% reliable.

Re: Kernel updates - a gentle moan!

Add my "gentle moan" to the OP's. I gave up kernel updates long ago, unless there is a real security fix that I feel affects me/my use-case. I ran 17 for 5 years on the 3.13 kernel and probably only updated it twice. When the processor panic hit a couple of years ago, we were bombarded with kernel u...

Re: HDMi doesnt work at Mint!

A wild guess (since you haven't posted system specs via inxi -Fxz) is that like my Dell latitude, HDMI only works through the nvidia graphics chip. When operating with the intel graphics you have no HDMI available.

Re: indicator keylock

There's a ppa for indicator-keylock on Ubuntu 18.04

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tsbarnes/indicator-keylock
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install indicator-keylock

Hope this helps

Re: Cloning to a Slightly Smaller Drive with Clonzilla

I've been using Clonezilla for about 10 years (or more) and I've managed to do what you want to do maybe twice sucessfully, and failed a dozen or more times. For what you want to do (mint 19.3 to mint 19.3 on a slightly smaller drive) I can give you my strategy that has worked for me every time I've...

Re: 17 worked better

Hi, bad medicine and bjmh46. You have not mentioned any details about the hardware on which Linux Mint 17.x worked perfectly for you. Could this not be the most likely reason for your dissatisfaction with more recent Linux Mint releases, specifically with Linux Mint 19.x? Outdated hardware, which i...

Re: 17 worked better

Been running mint (xfce) since 13, and hands down my favorite release was 17. Never was able to reliably suspend with 18 and beyond for one thing. 17 just worked 100%, all the time. So........I have to agree with the op, although you will never catch me going back to windows. I do love Mint!

I'm rather enjoying the annual holiday "lack of updates", as I do every year since I started running Mint 13.

Re: WiFi not working in Linux mint 18.3 Dell E6510

I can confirm that your wifi card, Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250, works perfectly in mint 18.3, as I have that card in a Thinkpad. Barring a real hardware issue, my only thought is: did you check your wifi switch? Most of the e6xxx latitudes have an actual hardware switch to turn of the wif...

Re: Linux Mint 19.3 'Tricia' What are your First Impressions?

With all there is to like about the new release (19.3 xfce), I almost feel guilty about mentioning that usb 3 transfer speeds are down a good 30-40% as compared to Mint 18.3 xfce. Same laptop (latitude e6530, i7, 8gb ram), same devices (various HDDs, SSDs, even tested with the same files--this is ve...

Re: How to run Irfanview executable slideshows with Linux?

I used to run irfanview under wine, and it ran fine. I have now completely weaned myself off of windows programs, and run only native linux stuff. I would suggest the excellent XnViewMP as an alternative to irfanview. As far as your .exe slideshows are concerned, they should run fine under wine--jus...

I have run across the same problem as the op, only when trying to use my firefox profile (contents) on a different distro (mx19) same version of firefox (70.0.1). Finally gave up and just restored bookmarks, copied saved logins, and did the rest manually. I have had no problem copying my whole .mozi...

Re: can you REALLY run a LTS Mint from day 1 to EOL (end of life) without reinstalling?

I ran Mint 17 without ever upgrading to 17.x from eol of mint 16 (non-lts) until slightly beyond eol of 17, when I decided 18.3 wasn't so bad. Still occasionally miss the rock-solid totally stable, everything works Mint 17 XFCE. Not only did I never re-install, but I cloned that install, and with a ...

I've been using Clonezilla since early on in Mint 13, and I've always used NTFS fomatted partitions to store/restore my images with 100% success. Yes, I do check image.
