Re: How to fix this please

Thinkpads and Latitudes here--I haven't been able to use suspend on Mint (reliably) since systemd. IOW, mint 17.x was the last version of mint to suspend 100% reliably on my hardware. Funny, the same laptops running any version of MX-linux (non-systemd) suspend reliably. I still prefer mint, so I ju...

Re: clonezilla woes...

clonezilla is hard coded to allow you to restore ONLY to the partition from which it was originally cloned. No, it's not. I've been using clonezilla for years, never had a problem to restore to a different partition. The only possible limitation, which is easily avoidable, is if the target partitio...

I did that exact thing on LMDE4, which has now been through two upgrades and still running strong on LMDE6. I just like xfce better than any other desktop good luck and enjoy!

Sorry about that--used img tags instead of attaching file! Note that this is a 13 year old core 2 duo thinkpad, and it runs really well on lmde! 8gb ram and cheap 128gb ssd.

Successful update

Really have to hand it to the devs, just finished upgrading my franken-lmde5 xfce to lmde6. Took about 45 minutes, had no problems and re-booted perfectly. The upgrade tool even emptied /var/cache/apt/archive folder.

I'm happy camper!

Re: My first time with lmde

I've kept one thinkpad set up with LMDE since LMDE4, now on LMDE5 with XFCE installed and Cinnamon removed. I'm just a big XFCE fan, nothing against Cinnamon. With only minor differences to regular Mint, I find it a very comfortable distro to use. Like many others, I wish Mint would go completely to...

Re: Restore LM in a different hardwre.

Most of the time it is not a problem. Drivers are contained in the kernel and will be loaded at boot time per the hardware. Exception happens if the new hardware requires one or more proprietary drivers especially video cards and sometimes network cards (but could be anything). I have swapped hard d...

Still very slow to open topics on individual forums! This has been the case pretty much since the "upgrade".

Seems much better this am (5:00am eastern daylight). Hopefully as the cache fills we'll get back to normal. The forum is a big part of what makes Mint a great distro for everyone!

Re: Forums Unbelievably Slow after Daylong Outage

Forum was unusable (timeouts) at 5:00am local this morning. Seems back up now, if a bit slow. I have to agree with a previous poster who said the problems started with the forum software "upgrade".

Re: Forums were upgraded — report issues you spot here

Some subforums and individual topics are still very slow response (this one included). Probably due to caching--hope it improves! FWIW I'm not on the fastest connection, but I do get close to 50mbps. Rest of the subforums load fast.

This morning between 5:30 and 5:45AM local, I was browsing the forum and it seemed to go down completely--"site is unreachable". Seems ok now (~8:00AM local--eastern time zone).

Re: Football (soccer) is the reason I ask this question. What is the best successor to the legendary Lenovo Thinkpad T43

I really can't suggest much but a newer thinkpad or latitude. That said, I am running a t530 & a 430 with absolutely no problems with streaming video. I also have a t470 i5 7th gen. and it's performance does not match the t530 which is an i7. I use only brave browser (since firefox 89 or so). No...

Re: Vera is here! love it? not?

As to the original question: After updating to Vera (XFCE), I have to say it runs good on 2 thinkpads here (t530 & t470). I am NOT complaining, but I'm not a fan of the new colors or the yellow desktop folders. Haven't tried the bluetooth yet to see if that is improved, but most everything else ...

I've always just used:

xfce4-panel --restart
I never kill the panel and try to restart it.
