Re: Linux mint is not recognizing windows 8 during dual boot

Should we choose...

Re: How to share a data partition between Linux and Windows

In linux partition are mounted to directories, the bold text is simply the path/name of the directory you wish to mount the data partition in. so if my NTFS data partition is called "Data" and contains the directory "Music" (for example) with mp3 inside , i should type: sudo mkd...

Re: How to share a data partition between Linux and Windows

[2] Create a mount point for the existing partition to live in, for example: sudo mkdir / media/Common i supposed the bold text should be replaced by the nameof my existing NTFS data partition? forgot to say , this existing partition contains Windows files, should that will generate some issues?

Re: Virus checking "positive" in new installation of Mint

For me thats not a huge issue as the risk of infection on a linux system is so low to begin with , but, I can see how something more advanced would be more suited to you with your involvement in the windows security community :) the main reason why i moved to Linux, i become annoyed to have to rely...

Re: Virus checking "positive" in new installation of Mint

Out of interest, what issues do you have with clamav. I use clamav with the clamtk user interface and have found it easy to set up and use, the one thing it doesn't offer is real time scanning which you specifically don't want. those points are mostly irrelevant in a Linux system but in Windows , i...

Re: Virus checking "positive" in new installation of Mint

You are right, chkrootkit is known to give this false positive. Worth mentioning though that neither of those programs check for viruses, though they do check for other forms of infection.. yes they are rootkit scanners , so i am fine with this FPs , glad to hear that ;) I'm assuming that you used ...

[Solved] Virus checking positive in new installation of Mint

hi, i just installed Mint Mate then checked my system with 2 virus scanners : RKhunter & Chkrootkit to see how they perform, then ChK found an infection "suckit rootkit" located at "/sbin/ini" ; RKhunter did not find this "infection" , so i guessed if it is a false ...
