Re: Mint Forum Unavailable

I have seen that a couple of times, too. I don't know whether it's a Mint problem, or a Sucuri problem, or what. It usually goes back to normal pretty quickly.

Re: Mint in Crises?

Really...Who said Linux was a Cancer ? Who would love Linux gone ? Micro$oft You may find this hard to believe (I still have trouble believing it), but Microsoft has changed their tune on Linux. Some time ago, Linus Torvalds said, “If Microsoft ever does applications for Linux it means I've won.” W...

Re: Can't execute application

What am I missing? You are missing the fact that the easy way to install software is to use the tools Mint provides for that purpose, namely Synaptic Package Manager and Software Manager. I like Synaptic, but I understand a lot of newcomers prefer Software Manager. Open one or the other, search for...

Re: quora

I just installed manjaro version of mint 17.3 and quora was there. Don't like it, want a standard desktop of mint 17.3 Well, you can't expect to get a Mint desktop when you install Manjaro or some other distro! And I'm not sure what you mean by "manjaro version of mint 17.3." To me, that sounds lik...

Re: Subscription service?

One of the first Linux distros i used was Xandros, which didn't have a subscription service, but they charged 89 dollars (IIRC) to buy each new version. It worked very well, and I was willing to spend the money. But I probably wouldn't be interested in a subscription support service when there is so...

Re: Bulk file processing

Welcome to Linux Mint, DerekMax! I never use the Software Manager, I always use Synaptic. Searching in Synaptic for "rename" several likely suspects came up: arename, autorenamer, caja-rename, gprename, krename (for KDE, but should run in any Mint version after installing a couple hundreds megs of K...

Re: quora

If you tell us how you got quora, that might help us tell you how to get rid of it. I don't see it available for install in the Mint/Ubuntu repos, nor do I find anything on the web that suggests that quora might be an alternative desktop for Linux. So, help us out here.

Re: Openshot Upgrade

I'm going to guess you downloaded the 2.4.4 AppImage? If so, the instructions on that download page say: AppImage requires no installation. Just download, make executable, and run. You can make it executable in the terminal, but I usually navigate to wherever I saved the program with the file manage...

Re: Odd window behavious / invisible windows

Run inxi -Fxz in a terminal and copy/paste the output of that command into your next post here. That will show us what your video system (and other hardware) is, what drives are being used, and other useful information like that.

Re: Is my PC too Old?

Did you try Compatibility Mode? Did you try using the nomodeset parameter? You have to edit the boot parameters to do that. Do you get to the point where it displays "Booting in 10 seconds" (or something like that)? If so, press any key and you will get some options. Try "Start in compatibility mode...

Re: UEFI: Remove multiple Linux OSes from multiple Linux OS install (No Windows)

What do you want to do with that space currently containing those other OSes? If you want to install other Linux distros, just install over the top of whatever's in there now. If you want to dedicate the entire drive to one OS, just delete the unneeded partitions then expand your keeper OS into that...

Re: Why isn't Lutris in Software Manager?

Mint comes with the most common applications that most people are going to want to have. Apparently the Mint devs didn't think Lutris falls in that category. I agree with them. I had never heard of it before and had to do a web search just to find out what it is. There may also be other reasons base...

Re: Internal Hard Drive

Mint pretty much doesn't care what a drive is formatted to. It recognizes all the most common filesystems, and can mount, read, and write them with no problems. So it's not likely that FAT32 is the problem.

So I agree with "AZgl1500" on this Likewise. Never done it myself, but in the years I have been using Linux, I have heard of lots of people doing this with no problem. Will be trying it out soon, putting the drive from a laptop with a bad power supply into another machine given to me with no hard d...

Re: Picture resizer?

What is Nemo? It's the file manager used in the Cinnamon version of Mint. Searching for "resize" in Synaptic Package Manager, I find Converseen, Fotoxx, imgp (which appears to be command line only, no GUI), and the aforementioned nemo-image-converter. There may be others I missed. I imagine you cou...

Re: BIOS Update

I have used Hirens BootCD to update BIOS several times. The old version of Hirens (which I have used) contains a mini-XP, and the new version (which I haven't yet used) of Hirens is based on Win10PE. Get them here: https://www.hirensbootcd.org/old-versions/ https://www.hirensbootcd.org/files/HBCD_PE...
