Re: I got fired from my job last week because of my autism :(

I don't know where you live, but in some places it might be illegal to fire you because of a disability. I would check into that. But since you do tech well, you should also look for something that suits you better. There is somebody out there that would just love to have an employee like you. My gr...

Re: Who no longer uses Windows?

Me, me, ME! The last computer I had with Windows on it came with Win98SE. I set it up to dual boot with Xandros. I don't remember the last time I used Windows. None of the computers I currently use have any Windows on them. The one that had Win98 on it I installed antiX on it a while ago, wiping bot...

Just be sure you don't put new wine in an old wineskin.

Re: LMDE or LMDE1 ISOs?

The last few months of 1976 and the first few months of 1977 I was in Phoenix, AZ. Other than that I would have been here and perhaps our paths may have crossed at some point.

Re: LMDE or LMDE1 ISOs?

I like to try a new or different OS now and then, too. I install them in VirtualBox. The last time I counted, I think I had about 35 different operating systems running in VB on Mint 17.3 Cinnamon. Its fun to play with the different versions. Plus when somebody posts that they have a problem in say,...

Re: Which version for old PC

I would install Mint 18.3 XFCE on it IF it has more than the original 512MB of RAM. If not, I would upgrade the RAM and put Mint 18.3 XFCE on it. If for some reason I didn't want to do that, I'd use antiX, or Lubuntu, or LXLE, or another of the "Light weight" distros.

Re: Grub Customizer: why you shouldn't use it

I used Grub Customizer for years, on several different computers, with no problems. Then I decided I wanted to do something maybe a little out of the ordinary: add Plop to the boot menu so I could boot from DVD or USB on a computer that doesn't support it. And that's where the troubles began. I want...

Re: How to install a Nyquist plug-in to Audacity?`

As root, copy the pseudostereo.ny file to /usr/share/audacity/plug-ins. Start Audacity. Click Effect, Add/Remove Plugins... Scroll down the list of plugins to the pseudostereo plugin and click it to select it. Click the Enable button. You're done.

Re: wifi, kernel upgrade, ndiswrapper, dkms, etc.

All my fault as it turns out. I made the mistake of telling her to go ahead and update to the 4.4 kernel as long as she's installing a new kernel. I have installed it on all my 17.x installs, and had no problems. But then, I wasn't using ndiswrapper or anything else that would need to be recompiled....

whm1974 wrote:How do I apply updates?

Use the Update Manager. It's in the panel at the bottom of the screen, on the right hand side. If there are updates (and if you just installed, there certainly are), it will turn blue.

Re: Mint has a BIG Problem; a REALLY, REALLY BIG PROBLEM!

Did anyone ask this individual for any details? Why not? There is no excuse for not asking. Perhaps no excuse, but there is a reason, and a damn good one: pleasefixthatbug made it abundantly clear in his one and only post that he has no interest in solving the problem, and didn't come here to solve...

Re: LMDE or LMDE1 ISOs?

You're welcome. Of course, I wouldn't use LMDE 1 on my computers as it is past its support period as of January, 2016, and not even security updates are available for it anymore.

Re: Checking out Linux MInt.

Welcome aboard, whm1974! I agree, Mint is probably the best distro for introducing newcomers to Linux. And, it's the best distro for old-timers like myself who just want things to work and don't want to mess around with their OS all the time.

Re: Installing Linux 18.3 onto Windows XP computer

Welcome to the Mint forums, larish! Have you tried booting in Compatibility Mode? That option should appear when you boot from the USB stick. However ... that's a rather puny machine for running Cinnamon, and you'd probably better off using a different desktop environment. I would recommend using XF...
