Sometimes that means there is a physical switch that is turned off. A friend had his Dell laptop for several years before he became aware of it. And he didn't find it, I did.

Who in their right mind would want a wood burning stove on their computer?
Well, computers run on smoke, you know, and where do you think that smoke comes from?

Re: [SOLVED -partially-] Correct video driver not working in VirtualBox/W7 on HP Probook 407 G0

Amongst friends here we call it 'Wintendo'.... Love it! A lot of functions in Linux programs can be called from the command line. If at some time you really want to import all those files to FreeCAD, it could probably be automated with a single line script. Obviously, if Win7 is running f...

Re: Dual Boot Two Linux Versions

"Install alongside" should work. I have used it several times to have more than one Linux install on a computer. (But now I usually just install them in VirtualBox.) As Flemur noted, the new install will then control Grub/booting, and your 18.3 install will be in the boot menu.

I entered my system password but it would not take.
When you enter your password in the terminal, it does not echo on the screen. No dots, no asterisks, nothing. Type it in blind and press Enter.

Re: Linux Mint won't boot into a GUI Desktop Environment

It is not recommended to have more than one desktop environment installed. It used to be common when I started using Linux 16 years ago, but not any more. I don't know how to recover from that, but undoubtedly somebody will.

Re: How do I install the BrosTrend AC3 on Mint?

Navigate to the install.sh file in your file manager. Right click on it, then click Properties. You will be able to set it to be executable there. You can also give a file execute permission from the terminal, but I'm so used to doing it from the file manager I never remember how to do it from the t...

Re: FreeCAD information collection

I don't know, but it seems unlikely. In general, that would be totally against the open source philosophy. Also, according to their github page, there have been 13,973 commits by 156 contributors. It seems likely that some of those developers are looking over other people's code now and then, and it...

I would contact PIA support regarding the dropped connections. No idea why it would freeze Nemo, but perhaps somebody will have an idea.

You don't have to use the terminal to install pavucontrol, you can do it from Software Manager or Synaptic. You also don't have to start it from the terminal. It will appear in your menu as PulseAudio Volume Control. (Some prefer the terminal, some prefer the GUI. Different strokes for different fol...

Re: Correct video driver not working in VirtualBox/W7 on HP Probook 407 G0

Chriske, when you run an OS in a virtual machine, it is just that - virtual . The guest OS can't see the computer's real hardware at all. All it sees is the virtual hardware that the host presents to it. So, the drivers on the original disk are useless to you, as are any drivers you might download f...

Re: Upgrading

There will be a way to upgrade from 18.3 to 19, but not until the final release of 19. Several people have posted a way they managed to upgrade from 18.3 to 19 Beta, but I wouldn't do it. Either install the Beta release, or wait until Mint releases the official procedure to upgrade to 19 final.

Really? Which version of Mint comes without hplip? I thought it was installed by default on all current Mint versions.

There is all kinds of good stuff in Software Manager (or Synaptic, which serves the same function), and it's all right there in one place, and it's all free. Enjoy Linux!
