Re: Mint 20.2 Beta

Baeverjo, you would be much more likely to get a solution to your problem by creating a new thread in the appropriate forums area, rather than adding it to the Beta thread, especially since you mentioned you are using the final version and NOT the Beta version. NOBODY is likely to be looking here fo...

Re: Dedicated LMDE team

I think Clem (and other team members) stay pretty up to date on what's happening in the Linux world. When the time comes to move on to something else, they will know. And I trust they will make the right decisions.

Different strokes for different folks. The extent of my gambling is buying a lottery ticket every other year or so. But if others want to gamble, I don't mind, it's their business. I don't boycott casinos, but, for example, I do boycott WalMart, Amazon, and a few others. The richest people in the wo...

PIA has a Linux client and from what I've read it's rock solid
I can confirm that. I have used PIA on numerous computers over a period of some years now. No problems at all.

digikam works fine on Mint 20.1 Cinnamon.

As does Shotwell. Most applications will work in any of the major desktop environments.

Re: How do I switch between two operating systems in bios.

RizReX4406, it sounds to me like what you want is a dual boot system, even though you have said you don't want it. With a dual boot system, you get to pick which OS you want to run each time you start the computer.

Re: How can I automount a windows partition?

Adding the drive to your /etc/fstab file will do it. I have no idea why ajgreeny says not to do this or not to write to the disk from Linux. I, and many others, have done this for years with no problems.

Welcome to the forums, quadrantids! Your name makes me wonder if maybe you are an astronomer, or an amateur sky watcher, or perhaps a ham radio operator who utilizes meteor scatter propagation?

Parsing this might be an option:
wmctrl -lx
Wow, that even tells me what document the program was working on, at least for some programs.

Re: How to keep programs open through a reboot?

No need to apologize for "hijacking" my thread. I appreciate your efforts (and everybody's) to solve this, and even enjoy the "thinking out loud" on the way. It wouldn't have to be an automatic thing when shutting down, if I could run a script that makes the list of what's runnin...

Re: Start more than one tty

Well, it used to be as easy as Crtl-Alt-F1, Ctrl-Alt-F2, etc. but I just tried that and for whatever reason it doesn't seem to be working on this computer. I'll have to look into that. Years ago I had 5 or 6 terminals going at once, and found I could issue a startx command in each one and have 5 or ...

Re: Is it possible to install direct from HD and not use USB?

Some time ago - 5 years? more? - I read a procedure on how to do that. Pretty sure it was here on the Mint forums, but I could be wrong. I think it was something like adding the Mint iso to the boot menu, then reboot. Seems like there were some tricks involved in it. Even if you can find it, I would...

Re: What is your favorite app on your phone?

I saw your comment on a Linux app, and that is a great idea. Which one are you using? Looks like one is called Linux Command Library, and I've also got a terminal emulator which I guess is just called Terminal Emulator. I don't use either of them real often, but they sure come in handy now and then...

How to keep programs open through a reboot?

I only rarely reboot my computer, usually only when I install a new kernel. But it would be great if all the programs I had running could be restarted automatically with the reboot. Any way to do that? I know I can put programs on auto-run at boot, but that's not exactly what I want. Not necessarily...
