Re: Rhythmbox title bar missing

Search the repos for the rhythmbox alternative toolbar and install. Start up Rhythmbox and go to plugins and activate it.

Someone gathered a bunch of plugins for Rhythmbox in one place. Download the deb files for Bionic and they usually work in Debian.

Re: just made the change to LMDE few issues

I can't see why installing a different distro would clear a path for LMDE. Possibly after a night of sleep you did something different that you didn't realize was different? Gparted then install with "do something else" worked fine for me 3 times now. Not adequate information on the second issue but...

Re: LMDE3 1st install today

I moved ahead with the Straight Debian in order to get the updated Linux Kernel. I didn't get to the 4.14 kernel that I wanted, but I expect Deb9 will move on this in the near future: the new Ryzen chips need the updated kernel for optimal scheduling. I'm not entirely sure I understand what you are...

Re: BSDCan 2018: The Tragedy of systemd

Excuse me? BSDCan 2018 is the name of the event, The Tragedy of systemd is the name of the talk. That is what I've use as topic tittle, I do feel it to be click bait, but those are the names that were used. An awesome and informative talk, enjoy. Is the opening comment in my post, followed by the l...

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

And anyone who disagrees is called extreme. Disagrees with what? Anything political. But That's as far as I'm going to discuss that issue. It's a dead end road. :D I tried not to make assumptions about your meaning but clearly if I am to clarify my point I am better served to make 2 assumptions. I ...

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

I never trusted them and my loathing of suckerburg deepens every day. Their blatant political bias is bad enough, but then lying about it and expecting people to believe them? He thinks we're all stupid. I'll leave it at that, although I could write five pages on reasons I hate Facebook. The irony ...

It seems no one noticed this or I missed the response? If I am correct it is spoken by John Wayne but I don't recall the movie.

Re: Kernel Update 4.9 briefly in Update Manager

I doubt LMDE2 will ever get a 4-series kernel. Actually, LMDE2 does have the 4.9 kernel in backport. The OP does have the backport repo in the inxi result post above. Maybe the hiccup comes from that but wherever it came from it has happened to me before. I always install level 4 and 5 separately a...

US Supr. Court Ruling on Cell Phone Privacy

Cell phones are an extension of the person. All law enforcement was doing was asking or location information from the provider and they got it without a warrant. Supreme Court ruled against that today. What I found even more interesting than ruling in favor of privacy (as if that isn't interesting?)...

Re: When did you come to Linux?

Short answer to the topic - When? When it was finally something that could be installed by a non-developer. When I first heard about it not long after it had officially acquired the name "Linux" I looked into it and decided it couldn't do what I needed. Next looked into it again and heard about Damn...

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

At least Facebook doesn't listen in .. or, does it? Maybe so on voice-enabled devices & via third-party apps? Yes, it was all three vectors of Facebook, Gmail and browser (I don't know which) showed relevant ads the couple says didn't occur before. Out of curiosity I looked to see any recent videos...

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

Yes, those people agreed to it but can you see how they didn't even know what they agreed to even if they read the agreement? Plus, the terms and conditions change all the time. Just because your FB privacy is set to maximum for now, that doesn't mean it will still be like that tomorrow. Hate to br...

all use pkexec now
Maybe I missed something in this thread but why can't pkexec be used in place of gksudo or gksu? Such as

Code: Select all

pkexec xed /path/to/file
Also, I thought "gksu" changes permissions the same way "sudo" does but "gksudo" doesn't?

refused to never use it or any "social internet/web services" such as twitter, my space etc... Yet people focus on just Facebook and laughably even went to Twitter to complain. Re: Kodi 16.1

If memory serves me correct, an issue people were experiencing in removing Kryptonite (Kodi 17) was a need for adding two more commands before doing apt-get update due to components remaining installed and pulling from already downloaded kodi files. Do the purge or remove then sudo apt autoremove &&...
