Re: Just now noticing LMDE. Are there big differences between Debian and Ubuntu?

MintBean, I didn't expect you would take what I said, alone, and make a decision. I just gave the "negatives" assuming you'd wait for more feedback than just one person's view. It should say a lot that even though I told you what was "missing" I use LMDE. It isn't some big, mean ...

Re: Whats the smallest device I can currently install Linux Mint on today?

Looking at Mate system requirements System requirements: 1GB RAM (2GB recommended for a comfortable usage). 15GB of disk space (20GB recommended). 1024×768 resolution (on lower resolutions, press ALT to drag windows with the mouse if they don’t fit in the screen). The first two can easily be exceede...

Re: Transparent side/bottom panel on Cinnamon

I don't know if it will help with the intelligent hide issue but you can also achieve a transparent panel using an alpha color. "background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0),". I've used that to get transparent panels and never had an issue with intelligent hide. If you mean what I am thinking with ...

Re: Transparent side/bottom panel on Cinnamon

Yes. It is difficult to thoroughly answer this question without knowing your experience level or which desktop theme you will want to alter but the following may be enough for you. /path/to/theme_name/cinnamon/cinnamon.css In the panel section you can either set the background for all the panels in ...

Re: Shadow & Shade Theme

Took some searching but the icons are here: https://www.opendesktop.org/p/1194982/ But I can't get them to work. There seems to be no "icon-theme.cache" and "index.theme" files in the tar.gz Can anyone please help me to get these icons working? Its almost done, stuck at the last...

Re: Ubuntu going back to gnome, whats the direction for LM?

If anything, I'd rather see Mint drop the Ubuntu connection and do more development on LMDE I'm curious. I see people making this comment but rarely, if ever, do people give an actual reason. I mean what would be the benefit? Not a lot of reasons but enough for me. The first two a bit philosophical...

Re: Ubuntu going back to gnome, whats the direction for LM?

To my understanding, the reason Mate and Cinnamon came into existence was because many people didn't like Gnome 3. So I don't see Mint going backwards (in that way). Mint existed before that even happened, so even less need to change towards Ubuntu. If anything, I'd rather see Mint drop the Ubuntu c...

Re: How to change Nemo's background color?

.view { background-color: #000000; color: @theme_text_color; } LMDE2. I don't remember which Cinnamon/Nemo version this started in and it will probably change a few other minor things to black but of course you can choose a different color. I use #202020 but I like a dark theme. Obviously LMDE is i...

Re: Toolbar elements invisible, then reappear

If what you refer to as theme-A is more similar to Mint-Y then it might be SASS which should not be modified in the way you are attempting. Due to the way it integrates into the system those themes should be altered at the source code level then compile and install. You're misunderstanding how this...

Re: Toolbar elements invisible, then reappear

All the cinnamon.css files I've seen are pretty much consistent. The Cinnamon usage of themes being 3 part is not standard in the Linux world, as far as I can tell but I don't have much experience outside of that one DE. GTK themes, which control most of the elements you see in all Mint versions can...

Re: Toolbar elements invisible, then reappear

I had forgot to mention that I had tried gtk-2.0 and gtk-3.0 for the selection-color element in the last question of my post. Unfortunately you've only told me information I already know, Penn; very StackOverflow/Quora/etc. answer. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but the condescension is palpable as m...

Re: edit thumbnail size in Alt-Tab switcher

I just go to the section for ".switcher-list" and delete the entire padding line but you might want to just change the value. Still isn't perfect but acceptable. I've been wondering if that bothered someone else as much as it did me.

Re: How to theme Cinnamon UI buttons?

Before answering questions I will point out if Arc is sass (it is possible since Mint-Y is based on it and that is sass) it isn't recommended to just alter the css files due to the way sass installs into the system. Gtk 2.0 folder exists still because some programs still use it. Most have switched t...

Re: Toolbar elements invisible, then reappear

Hello: I have taken two themes from online and stitched them together. Clarify? What exactly did you do when you "stitched theme together"? What 2 themes and where did you get them? One strange thing that has happened is that the toolbar on the File Manager, and other toolbars throughout ...

Is that what we are going to call it now? Plonking? I always thought it was 'Flaming' someone. But perhaps Im showing my age. Anyways... Where this term came from in this forum it isn't flaming. Re: Forum Police?

@Penn Please don't feel guilt--I have not read your posts lately at all and not referring to you or any other individual specifically. Plus I did not say rudeness, rather I have noticed a lack of warmth toward (perhaps new) members who make mistakes. This is not in Mint's best interest. My point wa...

Edit - the first paragraph was a comment on a reply which at the moment seems to have been deleted. Is it just me or is there a trend on this forum lately of becoming the normal hostile Linux elitists belittling people for asking a question. Key word in the OP's question was "good". For so...

Re: What is LMDE missing?

Support. Not just on this forum. From what I have seen of the Debian forum and other Debian resources simple questions aren't greeted with friendliness. If you have issues, be prepared to find answers on your own and if that is difficult be ready for some of those people to act like you should be a ...
