Re: need help with upgrade from 17.3 to 18.3 properly?

thanks everyone. here is some more info: ... SSD ... BTRFS I'd be very cautious with BTRFS on an SSD. It can be quite aggressive and may shorten the life of your SSD considerably. catweazel >> I am not installing new setup on BTRFS. that was my current install of 17.3. not sure how aggressive BTRFS ...

need help with upgrade from 17.3 to 18.3 properly?

Hi all, here is my situation, I am running 17.3 on my main home PC. last night I replaced MB/CPU and RAM on it. just had a nice AMD FS8350 8 core CPU and MB with 16MB ram left over from some project a while back and decided they would do more good in my main PC than laying around doing nothing, so s...

Re: Help migrating from other distro.

thanks,
frankly ,the more I read about it the more I am leaning towards just copy all things to backup folder on data drive and reinstall for safety measures.

as for a real backup I will be installing on a new drive so I can always return the system disk back boot right up.

Re: Mint 18.1 - 4 minute startup

thank you all, but it is not important enough to go through all of that. I have offloaded all the data to backup drive, and will be formating the drive hopefully this weekend regardless of anything. if it's the problem I will know in 15 min or less :-) I might also just bite the bullet and get a sma...

Re: Mint 18.1 - 4 minute startup

I have the same issue now. I had an HP pavilion desktop, MB died on me and I could not recover the windows 10 setup. it was OEM install upgraded in place. somehow it was not connected to my ms account on update so now it says I have to buy new license. I figured this would be the best opportunity to...

Well you can install the modules, but you are risking damage to the memory it self and/or to the main board. Lots of time the memory of higher dencitt modules need less power in comparison to lesser modules ie. A 4gb module may need 5 volts where a 8gb might run on 3.3 volts. It depends. If you MB w...

What I mean is , some apps do autostart by them selves by designe. The phone mfg or service provider want them running thus add them to...

Do you mean that sone icons are hidden all the way up or down beyond the actual screen area? if so, check your cable. I had similar issue with my dell 30 inch. It turns out I needed a better dvi cable to get the monitor to native resolution. Some cables, even dvi are different and simply not up to p...
