Re: Enable Password on Login

The only relation between the two passwords is that if your Login-keyring password happens to be the same as your login password, the Login-keyring is unlocked automatically when you login with your login password (but not when logging in automatically, which of course makes sense: Well, I'm strugg...

Re: Enable Password on Login

@rene, the above suggestion worked to eliminate all Keyrings.

What if I want to go back to a Login Password, which way should I do it, with seahorse or the built in manager: "Users and Groups" "Users and Groups" didn't seem to work at all to get thing changed when I wanted to.

Re: Enable Password on Login

Your still telling me nothing rene! I don't know if this is a language barrier or not. There is no "Passwords" in Mate, it is "Users and Groups" What are you using, Cinnamon? There is the info I see from Seahorse, what do you want me to do with that? I changed the password again to no avail. I'm sti...

Re: Enable Password on Login

In my view the best thing you can do is calm down and take it easy. If you can't do that now then better leave the problem for another time. Just getting all frustrated and angry is not going to resolve the problem. People here are just trying to help and it will work better with a positive attitud...

Re: Enable Password on Login

I'll look at lightdm.conf on my other machine, though it is Cinnamon, it is also 19.3. I have Cinnamon on another machine also now that I think about it, I'll check that also.

Re: Enable Password on Login

Yeah, I'm confused. I made another change I talked about before. I went from what I thought was "Custom" to "Admin" under linuxguy > account type. Now when I look at Account type I don't see the "Custom" Option but only "Desktop user" and Admin.

I'll need to take better notes next time.

Re: Enable Password on Login

I guess Auto Login should be off for now. Later once I see how this is done and the other option you showed me I'll make changes as needed. I'm showing you the Terminal Warning also as I've never seen this before. Thanks for sharing how to do all this stuff! linuxguy@linuxguy-Satellite-L775D:~$ xed ...

Re: Enable Password on Login

Now I cannot Enable Password on Login...what the hell is going on with this distro? Is all Ubuntu stuff doing this? It's logging in on Startup automatically and asking again for the "Unlock Login Keyring" again! This is a stupid system for sure. It's toy like, don't know how to get on with it if it ...

Re: Enable Password on Login

Passwords need to be a certain length. During install they can be short, after install, using the GUI Login Window to change requires longer. Using the Terminal for a new one, it can be short. Remember that to disable the Keyring, it is only available if you have auto-login enabled. The Chrome Keyr...

Re: Enable Password on Login

Thanks Lance! I will try that, but for now glad to learn that Passwords need to be a certain length...at least that's what I'm seeing. And now that I changed it and Enabled it for Power On Password I'm getting no more chrome Keyring. There really should be some documentation on this in the Installat...

Re: Enable Password on Login

Participants here may wish to note that OP was already given the answer and information as to which password is which in the neighbouring thread https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=326922. It's just taking very long to also have it implemented... You did not answer the question, that ...

Re: Enable Password on Login

GS3, This has been a long standing issue and really irritates me to not be able to just install a system and use it. Fortunately I think my issue is my password was not long enough and was only numbers, but the installer did not say I could not use this!

Re: Enable Password on Login

Can someone tell me if I'm supposed to be Admin also? The first time I went to Users and Groups Account Type was something like "Custom" is that possible? Now all I see is Desktop User and Admin, I chose Admin the first time I was in there as Custom didn't sound right to me. The new manual sucks, do...

Re: Enable Password on Login

I unchecked the box "Don't ask for password" and the system asked for password the first boot but on second it did not? On the second boot after opening chrome it wanted the password again. Why is this such and issue? I had the same issue with Kubuntu, what is Canonical doing to Linux Desktop? Ruini...

Re: Stuck at tty1 after using AMD Screen Tearing Fix

I was referring to the pathway you showed me, it was wrong. And I still get the keyring prompt after opening Chrome. It says "Unlock Login Keyring. This is after going into Users and Groups, using current password to leave the New password blank. I started another thread about this perhaps we should...

Re: Enable Password on Login

Try Administration - Users and Groups - User account Yes, this is where I'm going, but why do I keep getting the "Unlock Login Keyring" after opening Chrome? This is so stupid, where is the literature on this. I can't even get a good Manual to show what to do about this? I still get the keyring pro...

Re: Stuck at tty1 after using AMD Screen Tearing Fix

Another weird thing is, I was not set as Administrator, why is that? For me it is Menu > Users and Groups > Password > Change Also Check "Don't ask for password on login" I had a problem with the Graphics Setting that I used...I think. A few times I started the pc, the video was all messed up. One t...
