Turn off touchpad

Hi, It's been awhile since I installed a fresh copy of Mint onto a new laptop. This is a Thinkpad T400. I find the touchpad on the keyboard annoying, I always use the trackpoint. In the past, I'd simply disabled the touchpad in xorg.conf, but that went away awhile ago apparently. After looking aroun...

Re: Yet another Apple Trailer Thread (CLOSED)

This was a good link. Apple does check to see if it is a recognized offender. I implemented the patch suggested which was to provide a general override, and it worked. But, this has a negative impact on some other sites, so I installed the User Agent switcher available as a Firefox plug-in, and crea...

Yet another Apple Trailer Thread (CLOSED)

Hi, I have a reasonably clean, fresh install of 7. The only thing I believe I've done is to update the system since it was installed, at least media-wise. I went to the Apple Trailer site, and tried to watch a video, picked a couple including Avatar and a couple other no-name movies including "The S...

Re: Sprint BB tether - Success with a question

I got this working from the instructions on http://www.berry4all.com/use before I found your article. It works like a champ (tethered at the moment). I don't know the answer to your question, but it would sure be nice if someone could create a project so that berry4all could be installed from Synapt...

Sharing external USB device through SAMBA

Hi, I am on 3.00 (Cassandra). On my "server" system, I have an external USB 200GB drive. When I plug it in, of course it is recognized by Gnome, and mounts it with my ownership. But, if I do this, I haven't figured out how to share the drive with SAMBA. There seems to be some permission problems whe...

This looks like a good idea. I also installed Cassandra on a Thinkpad T22 with 256MB of memory. I simply changed the size of the RAM disk from the more than 1GB requested to 230MB. My swap disk is about 500MB ( this was pre configured). Accessing the boot options means pressing F6 from the boot spla...

I had some time to come back and look at this again. The boot options that are default in Bianca (haven't looked at 3.00 yet) indicate a RAM allocation of more than a GB. With 256MB on this laptop even with a swap disk there wasn't enough space. So, I edited the boot options by pressing F6, and chan...

I think I see the problem. the ISO image needs to be "copied" to a partition (/dev/hda2) for example. I'll try to resize this partition and see if that works. This is my home partition, so I'd rather not destroy the whole thing.

I've got so far as booting to vmlinuz and initrd.gz, turned off splash and quiet to see what's going on, and it stalls out on waiting for the root file system. This appears (from the instructions) as though it should point /dev/ram, but ubuntu points to /dev/rd/0. I've tried both and it stops there....

Install from ISO [SOLVED]

Hi, I installed Mint on a desktop system a couple of weeks ago, and have really enjoyed it. So, last night I thought I'd try it on an old laptop, a T22 with 256MB of RAM. This is indicated to be enough, but with "live noapic nolapic" I can only get as far as launching the installer from the desktop....

(sorry for hijacking this post) Somehow I lost this applet from the task bar, and I cannot find it to add back from the add applet dialog. Do you know how to recover it?

artsmessage cpu overload [SOLVED]

Recently I started seeing this message Sound server fatal error: cpu overload, aborting I've googled and checked the ubuntu forums, but this one never seems to have a root cause description or work around. Is there anyone on the Mint forum that understands what to do here? BTW, I did do an upgrade t...

I only happened to run across this link in a posting a couple below yours. Being curious, I read the link and thought it might have relevance to your situation: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=346083 Beyond that, I probably can't be much help, although I have used ndiswrapper before, but ap...

I had the same problem. It appears to be some sort of permissions thing. I ended up

cd ~
sudo rm -rf .linuxmint

because I was getting some failures. This cleared things up.

Based on the information in this thread, I trusted the installer and it did find my other installation. It would be *nice* if the installer text could be modified to indicate this behavior. Even nicer would be to allow grub to be skipped and let me add the boot options myself, but this would probabl...
