Re: Kaffeine closed captions

Yes, I am always pleasantly surprised how easy it is to understand and accomplish set-up of Kaffeine. It's the first thing I install. Just remembered, there is also 'Me-TV' (sudo apt-get install me-tv) which is also very straight-forward like Kaffeine. It supports closed-captions and has an excellen...

Re: Kaffeine closed captions

Yes, that was a live broadcast with closed captions/subtitles showing in my screenshot. I see your point though, one would expect it to be for playback of a pre-recorded program only. Just thought it might help diagnose the fault, if it did work in that version. But as you say, no good if one wants ...

Re: Kaffeine closed captions

This document states Kaffeine does support DVB subtitles: https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Kaffeine (in 'supported features' section). Although not strictly 'closed captions'. Your post has prompted me to look into Kaffeine a bit more and I'm pleased to discover it is once again being develope...

Re: Kaffeine closed captions

Been frantically trying to get my 'eng' button to grey-out so I can diagnose the problem, to no avail. I'm feeling cheated! But seriously, wondering if it might be something in the transmission information that Kaffeine doesn't like but that VLC can cope with? Just a novice clutching at straws, mind...

Re: Kaffeine closed captions

Hi, I've been using Mint 17.1 with Kaffeine for quite a while now but thought I'd give 18.3 a whirl as I'll need to upgrade sooner or later. Anyway, a couple of screenshots of what I'm getting: Untitled.jpg Untitled1.jpg So I just change the 'eng' and 'off' tabs to 'eng' and 'eng' as above. There is...

Re: LM13 mint-flashplugin-11 needs update

Hi, I'm still getting a strange behaviour with this latest plugin xxxx.540, I wonder if others are experiencing the same; I'm sure with previous plugin updates, as soon as the update was applied the 'plugin blocked' dialogue/warning disappeared from the top of the page in Firefox (even if plugin is ...

Re: LM13 mint-flashplugin-11 needs update

Thanks for confirming the output and screenshot appear to be ok. It seems all my plugins are set to 'ask to activate', I wonder if this is the default setting in FF? I only ever have to opt to activate under conditions such as now where a plugin is out of date, a vulnerability is discovered. Below i...

Re: LM13 mint-flashplugin-11 needs update

Hello karlchen, many thanks for detailed help. Isn't the fact that Adobe has just issued a warning re. plugin xxxx535 the reason it's being blocked again on my system though? Apologies, as I may be misunderstanding how the blocking process works. Must admit I do keep the same FF profile folder for q...

Re: LM13 mint-flashplugin-11 needs update

Just to report, further to my previous post above; I've tried Pierre's commands again and I now have the 11.2.202.535 version of flash - but flash is still being blocked. (To correct my previous post: I think I did actually get the xxxx.535 flash version the first time I tried, I just mistakenly typ...

Re: LM13 mint-flashplugin-11 needs update

I tried the 'apt-get remove/install flashplugin' commands from Pierre's post above, thank you, but the flashplugin is still being blocked. I restarted Firefox just to be sure. Add-on Manager reports I have the 11.2.202.521 version. One thing though, during the download process via the terminal I opt...

Re: LM13 mint-flashplugin-11 needs update

Yes I'm in the same position, using Mint 13 and looking out for the flashplugin update. Have tried disabling flashplugin (thereby switching to HTML5) which is ok for a lot of things, trouble is other half plays games on Facebook a lot and so it's being re-enabled for that which I understand isn't es...

Re: Pen Drive Speed problem

Yes, I have been having this problem for a long time now on Mint 13, copying from HDD to USB drive (it's ok in the other direction, as you say). It's like the pop-up dialogue is ahead of itself or something, not properly registering the actual copy speed. Never found a solution so have just put up w...

Re: SD card doesn't mount automatically

Not at all sure I'm on the right track here, but; did you try rolling back to a previous kernel to see if the card still gets mounted there ok? overkill22 wrote: had this problem in the past, then fixed it a couple of times, without having to run the script Do you mean the script did actually work o...

Re: SD card doesn't mount automatically

The symptom you describe is what I experience, on my old hardware at least, i.e. the SD card has to be in the slot before the laptop is started for it to be detected. Otherwise that little script works for me (the card has to be in the slot first before the script is run). But yes, it's not a one-ti...

Re: SD card doesn't mount automatically

I use this command/script in the terminal to mount the SD card on my old Dell Inspiron, this is perhaps what you were using before:

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -r r852 ; sudo modprobe -r sdhci_pci ; sudo modprobe r852 ; sudo modprobe sdhci_pci

Re: PC only boots from USB after install.

Ahh yes, that explains why I've not see the message for a while now - I switched to using usb drives/unetbootin exclusively some time back. Mint 9 was the last release I installed via CD. Apologies, no fault in Mint. Be handy to have that prompt though when using unetbootin (or startup disk creator)...

Re: PC only boots from USB after install.

Must admit I've always wondered why the "Please Remove Media And Press The Enter Key" message was removed from live CD's, some years back now. I've used Mint since 2009 and it always used to be there and was very helpful to avoid the machine booting straight back into the live environment ...

Re: HDMI no sound asus N56JK

Hi, The couple of times I tried Mint 17 with HDMI I found that at some point I had to log-out/in from the desktop to get the sound working. After that I went to the sound applet on the panel and selected HDMI, from the list. This is from memory though so can't be sure that's the correct order of the...

Just like to confirm, the above information from nanders83 worked for me too (in Mint 13 Cinnamon) on a Dell Inspiron 7520. Nice simple solution for once! Thanks for posting.

Re: Hauppauge WinTV NovaTD USB stick

Hi Many thanks for reply. The odd thing about my tuner is that it does still seem to tune into all available channels in all Mint releases above 13, all channels are listed in Kaffeine or MeTV, but when I click on them only about 2 play properly but the rest are blank or maybe show a picture for a m...
