[Solved] desktop offset from panel?
Hi, I look after my elderly parents-in-law's computer for them, as they often click on things without meaning to. However this one has me stumped. The bottom panel is still in the correct location, but Their desktop display is off-set to the left, leaving an unused dark grey bar down the righ...

Re: Thunderbird 102 installation
I think I'll follow the general idea of "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" and wait for a three-digit-version to show up in the repos :-) Waiting for the repo is generally the safest option. :) however as a philosophical aside, the "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" aphorism can...

Re: Multi user problem from grsync backup
Hi. Im not an expert but I think you just need to change the folder owner to each data directory for each user. Have you tried ls -l sampledirectory this should show you the owner (username:group) of a specific folder. Thats interesting! It *didn't* show me any of the user *names*, it listed the ow...

[solved] Multi user problem from grsync backup
I have just replaced a small SSD and a medium SSD with a faster 500GB SSD which I received as a gift. Previously I used the small drive for the system and the medium one for /home, but now I have a system partition and a home partition on the same ssd. Each member of my family has their own login, s...

Re: Monthly News – July 2021
People really need to stop relying on looks and judging a book by its cover. Yes, a very well known proverb of folk wisdom. Such proverbs often come in contradictory pairs to indicate the complexity of reality, such "if it ain't broke don't fix it" vs "a stitch in time saves nine&quo...

Re: Sorting photos into folders? Bigger thumbnails?
If the file is highlighted then pressing the space bar will give you a large quick preview of the file. Pressing space bar again makes the preview disappear.. I didn't know that! Thank you. When I read your solution I felt really embarrassed that I had missed something so simple and obvious....

[SOLVED] Sorting photos into folders? Bigger thumbnails?
Hi, my workflow includes sorting through hundreds of photos and copying selected ones to another folder. The most efficient way I have found to do this is: I use nemo with the extra pane turned on. I have set up a custom shortcut so that shift-c copies the selected file to the other pane. (Thanks @s...

Re: Where did the mirrors go?
those servers seem to go off-line on the odd occasion, Yes, I have noticed the odd one showing terrible connection speeds. Usually University of Canterbury is top of the list, but every so often it will be listed halfway down. But to have all of them unavailable is weird. but in most cases it's my ...

Where did the mirrors go?
Hiya, I just had a weird problem where several of my programs stopped working; thunderbird, waterfox, clipgrab, keepassXC. Since I have /home on a separate ssd to root I decided to re-reinstall Cinnamon 20.1 and see if that sorted it out. So far it seems all good, but I have found something weird wh...

I know this has been marked solved by the OP, but I've just been investigating the same question and found this thread, so I'm updating it for latecomers like me. Video cutters are designed to simply cut pieces of video between keyframes without having to re-encode them. LosslessCut LosslessCut aims...

Re: Access Denied - Sucuri Website Firewall
As per the op, this issue occurs sometimes when trying to access linuxmint.com, so I'd call it a website issue, not just a forum issue. I agree with @antikythera that this isn't a networking problem with Linux Mint itself, but I couldn't find a "website issues" category. Also since there d...

Re: Access Denied - Sucuri Website Firewall
It's Sucuri thinking you're a bot. As to why, they would have to investigate the block. Does this behavior continue? Thanks, that is how I interpreted it as well. But I wasn't sure about the "If you are the site owner (or you manage this site), please whitelist your IP" part. The behaviou...

Re: How to install Waterfox in 5 simple steps
Beside that, I wouldn't recommend Waterfox, since it was sold to some spam-distributor Effectively waterfox was sold to System1 on 02/14/2020: https://www.waterfox.net/blog/waterfox-has-joined-system1/ bad, bad, bad... Why is it bad? As Alex said on his blog System1 has been to Waterfox a search sy...

Re: Firefox loses 250 employees - will development quality go down?
I switched to waterfox when firefox dropped support for some tampermonkey scripts I use. I've been very happy with it. I use the classic version for the site with my scripts and the current version for most others. sudo sh -c "echo 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/hawkeye116...
