So any update on the ubuntu fix? If yes it would be useful to try again to upgrade.

Re: Upgraded from 18.3 to 19, fails to login.

Had the exact same problem and had to restore. I am suspecting its a xorg/gpu driver issue. I could actually login using mate instead of cinnamon. Although Mate also clearly had problems it worked enough to do the restore with timeshift. I have and AMD card with the oibaf drivers (for vulkan support...

Re: How about Discourse?

I do not know what the manjaro guys think but i have been on a few forums that use it and the QoL features on Discourse are amazing...It takes sometime to get use to them but after you do anything else looks primitive. And the aesthetics you can change up to a point if you know what you are doing...

Rethinking update manager strategies concerning serious vunerabilities

The dirtyCow bug made me think a bit about the update manager strategies. Such serious exploits need to be patched up no matter what the users expertise is. The current default strategy on the update manager does not push the patched verion of the 4.4 kernel and leaves it to the user. I know that Mi...

Re: AMDGPU-PRO and RX 400 cards- Black screen AFTER login. Cinnamon issue

Necroing this for an update...The 4.8 kernel on ubuntu 16.10 (that includes AMDGPU open drivers) actually work fine with gnome...so i supposed the same for Mint when the 4.8 becomes available for installation on the update manager it should be fixed for cinnamon.

Re: AMDGPU-PRO and RX 400 cards- Black screen AFTER login. Cinnamon issue

Yeah we had amazing timing...Anyway...I found the issue in askubuntu as well for gnome 3 DE.

there will probably be a fix soon either from Mint or AMD. There are some fixes around but not very reliable and require recompiling some libraries...I can use MATE until an official fix.

Re: AMDGPU-PRO and RX 400 cards- Black screen AFTER login. Cinnamon issue

There is no aticonfig command in the new ADM driver. It is configured though the script while installing. Also if it was a xorg.config issue xorg would crash before logging during boot, not after logging in and not only in Cinnamon. As i said Mate (and KDE) works fine. It is a Cinnamon specific issu...

AMDGPU-PRO and RX 400 cards- Black screen AFTER login. Cinnamon issue

I am not sure if this is the same issue as refereed on other threads. There seems to be an issue with cinnamon and the AMDGPU-PRO (actually also with open AMDGPU) drivers. After login using the proprietary I get a black screen with only the cursor visible. The system seems to work fine in the backgr...

Re: New firmware Security update for 3.13 killed the AMD dri

As a follow-up I also tried installing other drivers after updating to 17.2 (with the 3.19 kernel) and the problem persists. So I guess the issue was that Last unstable Xserver so-called ¨security update¨. The only fglrx that works is the one from the official repository and not the updates variatio...

New Xserver Security update for 3.13 killed the AMD drivers

There was a security update for both the Kernel and linux firmware and Xserver a couple of days ago that I updated yesterday, that broke the fglrx packages. I was on 3.13.0-24 before the update happened. This is the log of the updates (see attachment) The series of the updates was this: First the Ke...

Why would the replace chose a different disk for installatio

Just a major design problem with the installion application I came up with. I wanted to replace Mint 16 with 17 and i naively chose for the application to automatically replace the previous mint installation with the new one. Unfortunately the istallation for some reason chose instead of installing ...
