Re: bring the weather app back

the weather applets for cinnamon mate and xfce used to be installed by default and depending on which desktop environment depends on which app, I think they stopped including them around the time yahoo stopped their weather project and now they are serviceable again threw other means.

Re: New linux user needs help

the thing your missing is the keys, when adding a new repository always look for a way to add the key for the repository. for wine 5.x i know the opensuse repository is needed however the key for the repository isn't as clear as day but is on the same page as the repository. go threw the steps again...

Re: Steam games crash upon opening

I have a lot of video games on steam and usually the best course of action is finding out what works for each game and I haven't really run into problems that effect all games however I would recommend giving lutris a try as I can usually get a windows game working threw lutris as it has all the pre...

Re: Why is the default swap size equal to RAM?

as far as I know the rule of thumb was to make the swap size equal to the amount of ram you have as when your computer goes to sleep it puts all the information on the ram to the hard drive while this is not the only use for swap spaces that's my limited understanding of such.

Re: How to upgrade from LM 18.3 to 19.3?

I would say either a quick google search is needed for 18.3 to 19 or you can try this way https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2416 then from there the upgrades can happen threw the update manager in the edit menu like so https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3838

Re: Linux Mint 20 "Ulyana" MATE – BETA Release

sometimes I like to try the newest version of mint however excited I am for this latest release I'm probably going to sit this one out until the stable version comes out as I'm kind of comfortable with how I set things up in the current 19.3. great work though the team at linux mint is really on the...

Re: Adding link to my YouTube channel on these forums

the forums use standard bbcode I think so if you want to post a link you can with: [url=https://www.google.com]google[/url] and it shows up like this: google so as long as you have the correct url for your youtube account you can type it in where I typed www.google.com and then the text you want to ...

thanks for the reply, and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner.
somehow in my bios settings I had boot locked to uefi, the boot from the windows drive is legacy.
switched the bios to be able to boot the usb in legacy mode and installed fine :D

I will be marking this as solved

there is a detailed summery of ufw here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UFW basically for a home network what i do is white list local i.p.'s so in terminal type something like: sudo ufw allow from 192.168.1.0/24 this should white list all the ip's on your network. probably not as recommended as a...

(SOLVED)LMDE4 unable to find grub after install

hello, I am trying to install LMDE 4 for the first time and install seemed successful however booting to the hard drive and grub is not found. a little about my process: booted to usb using uefi mode (unsure why I'm locked to booting uefi as it seems legacy isn't on the list) made partitions for uef...
