ant screensaver stopped working

Mint Mate 18.3 and my Ant screensaver was working fine until I changed my monitor resolution from 1920 x 1080 to 1440 x 900? Ant hasn't activated since then and I don't want to go back to the higher resolution with the much smaller print. Ant will work fine if I preview it in settings menu but it wo...

Re: Data Transfer Rates Slow?

Nice?? All that and not the first suggestion on how to fix it?? To date, the Mint OS has been pretty good on installs and updates/upgrades, BUT, tech support here on this board hasn't!! Ran into the same junk a couple of weeks ago when asking for help here with a wireless network adapter and...

If you didn't place those packages on hold you probably have to use apt dist-upgrade
No, I didn't "place them on hold"?? I don't have "virtual box" installed on any of my systems that I know of?

So what does "dist-upgrade" do?

Storage hard drives are connected to SATA ports on the motherboard as are both Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17.3 on Solid State SATA drives. Data Transfer Rates Slow?

If this is in the wrong section, then feel free to move it to the proper one. I have an older multiboot desktop system that is built on an older ASUS socket 775 motherboard. It has 4GB DDR2 RAM and an Intel 3.6GHz CPU. I'm attempting to set this system up as a backup drive box and recently purchased...

Kudos to The Linux Mint Team!!

I've been using Linux since back in 2009 when I first loaded Ubuntu 9.04 because of security issues with Windowz XP. I switched to Mint when Ubuntu went to the Metro desktop and and have tried Ubuntu Mate but didn't really like that either so it was back to Mint. Ennywho, I've had my hands on 5 diff...

Re: Grub2 Question

Well, I pulled out an older "mule box" to test this with instead of messing with my daily box. That "mule box" is also dual boot with Windowz XP and an older version of Ubuntu. So I just loaded Mint 17.3 on it with the Windowz drive still connected and after that I disconnected the Linux drive and i...

Re: Grub2 Question

mr_raider this isn't an EFI moboard. It's an LGA socket 775 that I modified to run the socket 771 Xeon server CPUs on back about 4 or so years ago and I don't plan to stop using it any time soon. It's got a Xeon x5460 CUP, which is a 3.16 Quad core with 8GB DDR RAM and I haven't found anything I wan...

Re: Grub2 Question

Thanks for the link cat, but @ 72 years old most of that just went right over my head. I guess I could just disconnect all but one of those Windowz drives, reinstall os-prober then update Grub and see how it does with Linux disconnected after that. What I'm looking at is in the future just be...

Grub2 Question [SOLVED]

I started using Ubuntu Linux on my multiboot systems way back in 2009. Something I found out early on is that Grub, while it had it's good points it also had bad ones. What I mean by that is, back then Grub wrote to the boot sector of Windowz drives and if something happened to Linux, well, then a b...

Re: Level 4 xorg-server, update or not?

Did that xorg-server update and looks like all is well after it finished. Its like the gentleman up the page said though, Your Mileage May Vary! I did make a backup image of this 30GB SSD drive though before I started. Booted the Linux Mint 17.2 Live DVD and backed it up to a USB storage drive I att...

Re: Level 4 xorg-server, update or not?

Yup, the part that says it's a "Security" update is what concerns me because my Wife does our online banking on that system! Then there's that part of me that doesn't want to break it because I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer at fixing much of anything broken in Linux! I guess I could create ...

Level 4 xorg-server, update or not?

Linux Mint 17.2 running just fine on this computer but a Level 4 xorg-server update has been listed for a few weeks now and I've laid off installing it because it's listed as Level 4, ie, it might break something if I install it?

So should I install this security update or not?

Thanks

Re: Firefox ESR to Mint Mate 17.3?

Hey thanks all for the info. I did manage to get Firefox ESR installed on one of my "mule" boxes with Mint 17.3 on it but not until I figured out that you have to "Enable" removed in the "Additional Repositories" section. Seem that Ubuntu has those ESR PPAs by default but Mint does not. Ennywho, I'v...

Firefox ESR to Mint Mate 17.3? [SOLVED]

Can someone please tell me how to install the Firefox ESR version in Linux Mint 17.3 with the Mate desktop? I've downloaded the ESR versions from the Mozilla site but I haven't been able to find any instructions on how to do this?

Thanks
