Thanks, PatH57. CPUFREQ did the trick which resolved the overheating (powersave mode). Is tlp necessary for cpufreq to work? I suspect it doesn't, just want to make sure. I consider my overheating problem solved, but for my own educational purposes, if someone can still shed light on the whole think...

I have a Thinkpad T-400 and running Mint 17 (32bit) and I seem to have a problem of overheating. I've installed psensor to track my temperature and fan speed and when syncing my bitcoin wallet (not mining or anything super-intensive, merely downloading blocks from the blockchain) my core temperature...

Thanks so much for the clarification, xenopeek. By the way, configuring the menu to add a link to the file resolved the issue of the message that pops up (make executable and run). It just runs it with no message. 2 birds, eh?
