Firewalld vs GUFW

I started /w GUFW, but have since added Firewalld. When I boot Mint, Firewalld appears to be active & GUFW is OFF. I suspect Firewalld is the better tool, as it shows me what services are enabled, where as GUFW does not. It also allows me to turn off Samba, where as GUFW does not. What services GUFW...

Re: 802.1x Security

If you start 802.1x Security, as defined in first post, the network stops working.
To me, this is a problem /w Linux. I have tried the same test /w Fedora 25 Cinnamon x64.
It too, causes the Network to stop working, before Expressvpn is activated.

Re: 802.1x Security

Added Expressvpn & it works /w Mint/Network/802.1x Security turned off. When 802.1x Security is ON, then the network does NOT work & thus Expressvpn cannot work either. When the network is up, the Expressvpn web site says my connection is secure. But if 802.1x Security is OFF, I question whether the...

Re: Specify a DNS Server Number ? [ Solved ]

Have a problem running a new (Beta Test) program from a Trading Corp. They suggest that it may be caused by a DNS issue. So I am testing if Mint 18.1 does have a DNS leak issue. Found that once I enter a value in DNS IP4, that I could not enter a value in DNS iP6. However, problem disappeared once I...

Update Manager Woe [SOLVED]

If you have Linux Mint 18.0 /w Firefox v51, & use Update Manager to Blacklist Firefox, it will then stop updates to Firefox (as it should). But, if you use Update Manager to Upgrade to Linux Mint 18.1, then instead of blocking changes to Firefox, it will load Firefox v52. Firefox v51 supports Java. ...

Mint 18 System Info ?

Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon x64 OS.
My CPU's have multiple cores (x2, x4, & x8).
When I use "System Info", the "Processor" line shows x1, x2, or x4 at the end of the line.
Usually half of the number of cores on the PC.
So what does the (x1, x2, x4) really indicate ?

I use LinuxMint 17 (qiana) & have the same problem. I too have asked for the same feature.
Perhaps someday the gurus will find a way to do what Windows has been doing for years.

Does Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon have a built in Firewall to protect the system from outside probing ?
If Yes, where can I find it & see that it is on/off ?
If No, is there a package that can be added ?
