cp unbelievably slow

Linux Mint 21.1 Vera Xfce 4.16 Kernel 5.15.0-60-generic For some reason, and this started about 1-2 months ago, cp (the basic copy command) has become unbelievably slow. I think it's related to reading mostly, because SDL2's IMG_LoadTexture() has also become unbelievably slow, like 20-40 times slowe...

Re: PHP 8

I understand, it'll be a while longer before it's available in the apt repositories. I've looked into how to manually get PHP 8.0 up and running as an Apache module. For anyone who's trying to do the same, I'll post the steps below. [First, get PHP 8.0:] $ sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade $ sudo ap...

PHP 8

PHP 8 has been out for a while now (10+ months).

I'm wondering when I'll be able to use PHP 8 on my Linux Mint stable?

Thanks.

Re: Opening certain sites leads to crackling on audio

Wow, didn't think I'd see someone else with this issue, [...] Hm, I've actually had this problem with Linux (Mint) for years... It's one of those things where I'm wondering why it still hasn't been fixed. I'll try the fix/workaround mentioned in this thread, and I'll add it to my list of things to ...

Re: Major resolve problems since upgrade to Mint 19

I've been able to fix the problems! :)

I always use a /home/norbert/.hosts file with ln -s to /etc/hosts.
(Personal preference, related to how I (frequently) edit the file.)
Apparently Mint 19 doesn't like this set up.
As soon as moved back ~/.hosts to /etc/hosts the problems disappeared.

Re: Major resolve problems since upgrade to Mint 19

For some reason it seems the network connection needs constant wake-up calls. If in the last second or so you haven't accessed the Internet, it needs a single call to get started. For example, ping google.com will fail, but then immediately ping yahoo.com will work, even though it's a different doma...

Re: Major resolve problems since upgrade to Mint 19

I have the exact same problem with a fresh install - so no upgrade - of Mint 19 Xfce edition.
Is there a solution?

17 Cinnamon Feedback

Recently, two buddies of mine and I installed 17 Cinnamon on our PCs. Here's some feedback, some of which may be useful to improve future versions. We three have very different computers, but for all of us the install system picked this keyboard by default: Keyboard layout: English (US) | English (U...
