Re: LM17.1 corrupted auto-login

OK, sorry, I scarcely understood a word of that - as usual, I guess I will have to re-install from scratch and re-load everything. I already KNOW there is disk damage, I am trying to find a way to fix/reinstall around it without losing everything. In this, it seems Linux is no better than Window$. :...

Re: LM17.1 corrupted auto-login

As I already stated, that does NOT work ... if I enter my username, it immediately takes off and says "Login Incorrect" ... it never asks for a password. Same with any other entry. I may have set it up with no password way back when, since I am the only user.

Re: LM17.1 corrupted auto-login

Sorry, but that is not clear - I followed those steps and got a command line in my user home folder, saying login: Does it want MY username, does it want "root", does it want my username's password, or does it want "root" password? In all cases, regardless of what I type, it resp...

LM17.1 corrupted auto-login

64 bit LM17.1 auto-boot failed inexplicably this AM, with continuous "authentication failed" messages, (following an extremely extended boot interval and failure messages asking if I wanted to "fix", which I accepted, having no other obvious choices) - I managed to reboot to a ro...

Re: How to install downloaded printerdiver

Excellent help! Worked for me :D I'm a once-upon-a-time tech guy, now slowing down and behind the curve. I always seem to have to search for help for even the most mundane Linux tasks, but I have installed LM17 as my primary OS, with Win7 and WinXP as fallbacks for stuff I haven't figured out how to...

Re: How to automount ntfs drives in Linux Mint 17 KDE?

I found out, by trial and error, that I can automount partitions (NTFS, USB connected, whatever) in Linux Mint 17.1 with xfce desktop (other versions of Linux, Linux Mint with a different desktop, or maybe even the same distro in earlier or later versions may be different) by opening the menu, highl...

Re: Adding Windows to Grub

Long Story ... maybe it will help someone else in similar situation. :) -started with Win7pro, added WinXP, added LMDE about a year ago -had problems with sluggish performance, even after a fresh wipe and re-load; MB diags passed, Memtest86 passed, WD Disk Diagnostics passed, EVENTUALLY. Slower than...
