Re: PCI Wireless Adapter

Decided that the ongoing internet disconnection using wireless connection was becoming intolerable so have asked for a refund from Amazon and have run a 20m Ethernet cable which has secured a good speed constant connection. Many thanks for all the help and as I said before at least I have learnt a f...

Re: Software Manager - Where in the menu is xinv3d?

Hey

Thanks guys, simply putting name in terminal worked I guess that seemed just a bit to obvious for my brain Doh!!

Anyway FYI a load of what you wrote went over my head as I am not as yet used to the glossary of terms you use but with your help I am at least moving in the right direction.

Re: Software Manager

Hi

xinv3d is a space invaders game

]“there will be no entry in the menu, because you have to execute it in a terminal window.”

I suspected it might be but how do you know what to execute i.e. what is the command ?

Re: PCI Wireless Adapter

OK Many thanks for your help on this at least I have learnt quite a bit in the process.

I don't have another PC to test it out but I know a man that does. This may take a few days so keep watching the thread my friend and I will update progress.

Re: PCI Wireless Adapter

This what I thought, I tried it in both spare PCI slots which is why I thought perhaps it was not compatible with the motherboard. I had previously installed the card on this machine prior to installing Linux when it had WIN XP o/s and it did not see it then which is one of the reasons I ditched XP ...

Re: PCI Wireless Adapter

I looked at the hardware.txt file but could not see any Wireless PCI device matching the one I have inserted ! This may be a daft question but would the device not show up until the driver has been installed ? I think my first step is to make sure the Card is capable of being driven first, do you ag...

Re: PCI Wireless Adapter

Decided to give it another go !!! The Terminal enquiry 1spci -vvnn does not show up the device at all and I tried the Adapter in two different slots. The spec for the Wireless adapter TP-LINK Model TL-WN951N I found is as below: CSMA/CA with ACK Interface 32-bit PCI . TP LINK TL WN951N IEEE 802.11b/...

Re: PCI Wireless Adapter

After my third foray into Linux I have decided to give up for the present. I think it must be for folks who have time on their hands (no disrespect I soldered a Sinclair ZX80 together and taught myself machine code programming back a while) I find that the system is great when it is working but I se...

PCI Wireless Adapter

Hi Since installing Linux Mint my USB wireless adapter works but has started dropping out. I decided to install a PCI Wireless Adapter the same make as my USB adapter to see if this improves the connectivity i.e. TP-LINK but I cannot find a driver and the mfc only provides for Windows. Can anyone ad...

Back to Where I started (sort of sorted!)

I started this morning and installed Mint, sorted printer, sorted camera etc and the machine was working fine, all this on a brand new HDD. I then shut down PC and came back later only to find a black screen which I guess is the cmd or terminal !! It was asking me to select an OS either Mint or mint...
