Re: Both appimage and deb applications won't open
The artisan-linux-2.10.2.AppImage would not launch for me, but the artisan-linux-2.10.0.AppImage launched without issue.

Re: Terminology Oldsters vs Youngsters
I remember buying single sided 5.25 disks then cutting the notch out on the other side I still have my notcher. I found it last week while digging through my Box Full Of Old Tech You Should Probably Have Thrown Out But Kept Just In Case. I could not remember what it was at the time. Show of hands. ...

Re: Terminology Oldsters vs Youngsters
If you want to confuse youngsters, ask them if they know why you "dial" a phone number. Then ask if they know where the dial is. I wager the expression on their innocent faces will be similar to the one a toddler has the first time someone plays 'I got your nose'. A neighbor's kid lives to...

Re: How long have you been using Linux ?
I selected Between Ten to Fifteen Years because I first started using Linux with Redhat 5.0 ... I just did not stick with it because OS/2 was still a better fit for me. I switched to Linux in officially in 2014 when WinXP hit EoL. So technically I guess I should be in the Between Five to Ten Years C...

Re: LibreOffice file problem
The person who lay out the newspaper/magazine uses MS Word to do it... :? Anyone who uses MS Word for a complex document like this deserves every drop of misery that comes their way. I have broken in at least five keyboards because Word automagically rearranged a page for me. On a postive note, the...

Re: LibreOffice file problem
A bigger problem, IMO, is you are using LibreOffice Draw for page layout. It is not as egregious as some of the misuse of Excel I have seen over my many years, but Draw is not the best tool for the job. I would use Scribus for a document like this, especially if the placement of elements required pr...

Are you talking about a specific malicious AppImage (name and source, please) or a hypothetical malicious AppImage?

Re: Image Compression
Almost every image editor, paint and drawing program (GIMP, Krita, Inkscape, Pinta, LibreOffice Draw, etc.) can resize images. I think these are not the ideal tools for the job - it is like using a chainsaw to prune the dead limbs on the office ficus that nobody waters. Smaller, simpler and faster t...

Re: Trying to decide on a Flatpak or an Appimage.
I decided to go with the Appimage. The Appimage I chose, gimp2-10-36-python2-mm-ubuntu.Appimage, is purported to have the python 2 dependencies needed to run the Resynthesizer plugin ... No joy on the Resynthesizer plugin though. I've installed it, but there's no sign of it in any of the menus. I h...

Re: Trying to decide on a Flatpak or an Appimage.
Hello. I'd like to upgrade to the latest version of Gimp as it has a bug fix for the color picker tool. It can be installed via Flatpak or Appimage. I've never installed either so I don't an opinion on the merits of either. I've researched enough to form the opinion that, to the OS, it's a matter o...

Re: where install appimages
On the right side of the github you will see a Releases section, and clicking the latest release build will take you to the downloads. AppImageLauncher is available as traditional package for Debian and Redhat distributions (.DEB, .RPM), as an AppImage, and as source, and it is recommended to use th...

Any recommended "How To Use Cherrytree " guides webpages or videos ? I started using CherryTree when I first switched to Linux (10 years went by fast) to help me document my learning process. I found it confusing to use at first - as Hoser Bob mentioned, the default menu bar is busy. One ...

Re: Why do you choose linux mint as your main OS?
I switched to Linux when WinXP hit EoL. Hard to believe it has been 10 years. I tested several distributions and desktop environments, and I selected Linux Mint MATE. I chose MATE because the Look/Feel was more familiar than Cinnamon, KDE, and Xfce. I selected Linux Mint because of the Linux Mint Fo...

Re: Binding Alt+§ to minimize windows doesn't always work
The keybinding to activate the window menu is alt+space , and n is the menu shortcut for Minimize to the desktop. If that is not the result you want, try alt+space+x . alt+space+m will maximize an active window. You can assign another key combination from System Settings → Keyboard → Shortcuts → Win...

This may not be the suggestion you want, but look at XnView MP. XnView MP is avail...

Re: Windows - what do you use it for?
I have a Win11 virtual machine to manage my mother's iThings. Nearly a year ago the HDD on my mother's iMac was showing signs of imminent failure - the machine had been out of support for macOS a couple of years (my idiot sister convinced her it was still safe to use). When the HDD started making &q...

Re: Looking for a simple image editing tool
Look at XnView MP - it primarily is an image viewer , but it has a nice assortment of image editing and image management tools. It can open .arw and .cr2 files, and it can be used to adjust highlights/shadows and noise reduction. It is proprietary software, but it is free for non-commercial use. It ...
